Every once in a great while, we like to share the worst press releases we received in our inbox in a given day. Or a given month, for that matter. You may remember the exciting news from KFC that they had sent a letter to Jennifer Lopez, for example. Today's doozy comes to us from Travelzoo, a web site heretofore believed by this editor to be a rather helpful source of email alerts for good vacation deals — a belief that may now require some revision.
ONE-THIRD OF AMERICANS ELECT SARAH PALIN AS IDEAL VACATION PARTNERYes, yes it does appear to be working, doesn't it! It's especially great that they would release this today — farther down on the release it explains that the survey was conducted between September 18 and October 7, 2008, several days before the release of the report confirming that the GOP vice presidential candidate violated her state's ethics rules. Oh, and then lied about what the report actually said.Palin’s Popularity Extends Across Party Lines
New York, NY, October 14, 2008 – With the hotly contested presidential election only weeks away, the candidates are shaping all aspects of American culture, including travel. According to recent survey findings by Travelzoo (www.travelzoo.com), the guide to the world’s best travel deals, a full third of Americans (33 percent) would choose to go on vacation with vice-presidential Republican candidate Sarah Palin.
Although Democrat Barack Obama placed first overall with 35 percent of the vacation-partner vote, VP hopeful Palin was just two points behind the presidential candidate. If McCain’s goal in choosing Palin was to create excitement around the GOP and appeal to Middle America with folksy “Joe Six-Pack” charm, it seems like the plan is working.
It goes on:
More surprisingly, Palin was three times as popular as John McCain with Republicans -- 60 percent of right-wingers polled voted for her, with only 22 percent for him. Maybe that’s why she referred to it as “the Palin and McCain administration”! On the blue side of the aisle, Democrats were just as likely to choose Palin as their own vice-presidential candidate, Joe Biden (both had 12 percent). Say it ain’t so, Joe!Remember, the question asked here is which of the four candidates you'd rather pal around with sipping mai tais on the beach. The only thing in this release that rings even the slightest bit true is the notion that we're all going to need a vacation after Nov. 4. I could use one just after reading this nonsense.Although the candidates probably won’t be available for a trip, American voters will certainly be in need of a vacation after all the excitement of November 4! Travelzoo has taken all of the legwork out of planning a trip by revealing the vacation preferences of Democrats, Republicans and Independents, and uncovering deals to help Americans treat their election fatigue. Travelzoo’s deal experts work with more than 900 travel companies to uncover the very best bargains for travelers, no matter where they stand on party lines.

True, but that is just because she is the only one which we can see having too much wine with one night after touring ancient ruins, and end up banging in the hotel room in a sloppy drunk fuck. McCain would be stiff, we might break his shoulders or something. Biden would cry the next morning. And Obama would make us feel inadequate.
Of the four candidates, she's the one that'd look best in a Speedo on the beach, no contest. Although if Chris Dodd were still in the race, it'd be another story.
I guess if your idea of a vacation is not travelling very far, not leaving your home state much, and killing lots of innocent animals along the way, then sure, she'd be a great travel partner.
i mean, hell, way to bury the lede, right? the fact is that obama won this "poll".
yar, what a frakking joke.
travelzoo=republicans?
Palin appeals to the worst in us: xenophobic and proudly ignorant. Her and McCain's efforts to portray Obama as a scary, anti-American cult leader have been nothing less than flat-out disgusting, not to mention embarrassing for those of us that still hold affection for the U.S. political system. Thank God it appears that most Americans are finally able to see through the faux six-pack (who do you want to kill deer with?) politics perfected by conservatives over the past few decades.

Is this the slowest news day ever?
It's not so much the idiots who gave the poll which are making this mistake, it's us idiot 'Murikans who lack any sense of judgment.
ok, i give up; where does one go on travelzoo.com to get political commentary? this was just playful banter, and has nothing to do with equating leadership with a great travel companion...?
i subscribe to travelzoo and have never received anything but travel deals. i just spent some time going over their site and still can't find anything political there...
Sommer, are you sure this is a legit 'release'? i google searched some of the text and dcist is the only link that comes up. do you have a link?
there was a poll back in february, but Palin was not included and Obama bested everyone, including Hillarly by 2-1.

IMGoph: More likely they were just guessing that a Palin headline would get more attention. This is really just a free ad for them.
politburo: you're probably right.
With just a little over a week left before we find out who will serve as our Commander of Chief for the next four years, there are new controversies between both the Democrats and Republicans. Not just the headline news, but the entire media and people across the country are reporting on Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin and her $150,000 spending spree on clothes, makeup and accessories. This story has captured a sudden flow of negative publicity. Although both Palin and Democratic Presidential hopeful Barack Obama have spent large amounts of money on clothing, we should not allow this matter to distract us from the true focus that will affect the future of our country. After all, we live in a society where looks, more than anything, are the prime things that we judge people on. If you have one candidate enfolded in designer clothes, but someone else who looks as if they have a wardrobe from K-Mart’s clearance rack, the scale is beyond balanced. Obama’s TV commercials cost way more than what the Republican National Committee has spent on Palin’s clothes. Besides, it’s probably not a bad political move, considering all the attention Palin is getting with her wardrobe. Clothing is NOT one of the critical issues that we should base our focus on right now. The American people should judge the candidates on their plans for our future, and vote for the candidate that supports American’s right to freedom of choice, personal financial responsibility, and the continued rights to no fax payday loans.
