"..the Board is now responsible for advising the DCPS Superintendent..."

Still wrong. The State Superintendent of Education, which oversees more than just DCPS. Please see www.osse.dc.gov.

"the Board is now responsible for advising Chancellor..."

WRONG.

The Board advises the State Superintendent (Deborah Gist), not the Chancellor.

the D.C. Council granted mayoral authority over the schools to the mayor's officethank god the council didn't grant mayoral authority to my office. it's a good thing mayoral authority will continue to be exercised by the mayor. y'all had me worried for a minute there.

Actually, the Post made some picks in yesterday's editorial.

Prior to home rule, the school board was the only mode of political ascension in DC. Barry shrewdly used it as his ladder and in doing so helped pervert DCPS to the sinking ship metaphor (pick one) it is today...which makes it especially ironic for him to criticize Rhee's attempts to fix the very disaster he helped create.

With Fenty and Rhee firmly in place and duking it out with the council (who, after being given a chance to bloviate, usually back off), this next school board is purely ceremonial. "Advising on academic matters?" No one advises Fenty on *anything*.
