Yeah, Probably Not The Best Time and Place To Film
It seems as if the producers of the upcoming HBO series based on the Washingtonienne book by Jessica Cutler decided that the pilot really needed some authenticity - the show's crew was spotted by several DCist readers and contributors while shooting scenes last night in Adams Morgan. Apparently, the crew blocked lanes of traffic on 18th Street and a significant portion of the sidewalk.
Well, look, I've never backed a large-scale dramedy for HBO (and far be it from me to judge the logistical genius of Sarah Jessica Parker), but this Districtonian would probably have to think for a long while before imagining a more painful location to shoot than in the heart of the 18th Street strip on a Saturday night. I mean, this couldn't wait until say, Tuesday night?
Word is that the newly-named actresses working the pilot were dressed classically. What, no flip-flops? Where's the Method, ladies?
Let us know in the comments if you were in Adams Morgan last night and managed to get on camera as an extra.

Business owners were not happy about this because it took up parking and they were given less than 24 hours notice of this....While I realize there might be a cache with having your storefront featured in an HBO series, this is only a pilot....might not even get picked up as a series.
I think the procducers could have picked a much less invasive time to film on 18th St. especially if you ask around, most owners on 18th St. will tell you that like the rest of the country, business is down as of late and impeding traffic, parking and walking was not a good way to help business.

I can think of at least one more painful location to shoot than the heart of the 18th Street strip on a Saturday night.
Inside Jessica Cutler's butt.
Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all week. Don't forget to tip your server.

Inside Jessica Cutler's butt.
Why would that be painful? I hear it's pretty loose.
Two shows on Saturday. Also, try the veal.

I was in Adams Morgan for an early dinner and saw them setting up; I don't know who they think they are, but invading Adams Morgan on a Saturday night--the Saturday after Halloween, no less--is terribly brainless of them.
At least the PAs frequented Tryst for their better-than-Kraft-services espresso and dinner.

This probably explains what was going on at Ben's Chili Bowl last night (Sunday), except I don't remember Ben's being in the book.
