Fight at Anacostia High Sends Five to Hospital
Via the Washington Post, news of a really bad fight at Anacostia High School in Southeast that sent five students to the hospital. Three students suffered "superficial cuts" during a knife fight, another was injured, and a fifth had an asthma attack. To top it all off, someone started a small fire just as the fight was ending, and then another group students got into a second fight after the entire school was cleared and led out onto the football field. What a terrible day for students at Anacostia High.

That's just awful. I hope this doesn't get perverted into being the result of Anacostia High being in a, um, "bad" neighborhood; I went to a pretty affluent high school and remember a very similar event occurring when I was there. Ugh. Kids.

If Obama sends his daughters to public school, would the threat of a Secret Service presence prevent this sort of thing?

How are students getting knives into the school? All DC public high schools are supposed to have metal detectors and security at the entrances. Campus security has definitely gotten worse in the last year, and the scary thing to me is that it seems the troublemaker students have figured that out. Rhee needs to address this now.

They were (it was a?) pen knives. Like, knives... in pens. According to the news.

Haha I call BS ... this particular kind of thing only happens in the ghetto schools. Just like Columbine style shootings only happen in a certain kind of schools.

Way to be a jackass, fuck registering.
Nothing like a blanket stereotype to show what a swell person you are

I bet the asthma attack kid isn't feeling too cool right now. When you're sharpening yourself up for a bit of the old ultraviolence, don't forget to bring your inhaler.

Stereotypes exist for a reason, doofus! I'm not saying they're true for every school, but statistically speaking when something like this happens, it happens at a particular kind of school. If you're upset by this:
1) Blame mathematicians
2) Help these schools break their stereotypes

1. you don't work in education do you?
2. I do
ghetto my ass. I grew up in vermont, you'd have to look really hard to find any kind of ghetto there and believe me there are hardcore school fights, but then, that must be BS, right?

I think we can all agree that anacostia is a shining beacon of civil behavior and that this fight was a rare and isolated incident.
yes, that's sarcasm, you ultra-pc asshats.

Hardcore school fights where five people get stabbed, a fire is started, and then another fight immediately happens after all this is over? Yes, I'm calling BS on your hardcore school fights in non-ghetto areas of Vermont.
Stereotypically speaking, though, it makes sense that you'd be offended by what i said considering you're most likely a:
1) hippy
2) feminist
Of course you're not either one, right?
And what does it matter if I work in education? Maybe I come from an entire family of teachers. Teachers of both 'ghetto' schools and 'good' schools. I have never heard of this type of stuff happening at a 'good' school. But I'm not from Vermont...
