Gas Service Out in Shaw

In case you missed this morning's Alert DC notice, Washington Gas reported that gas service has been interrupted to some 400 homes in the Shaw neighborhood as of just after 8 a.m. Not great timing, considering the recent cold snap.

The outage was reportedly caused by a Washington Gas employee accidentally damaging a gas line. The area affected is from U Street to Rhode Island Ave NW, and from 8th St. to Vermont Ave NW, as pictured above. Washington Gas says it is going door to door to alert residents of the outage, and that they expect the damage will be restored within 24 hours. A staging area has been set up at 931 R. St NW, so look out for traffic slowdowns on R Street between 10th and 9th.

Overnight lows are expected to dip down to close to 30 degrees tonight.

It's probably related even though I'm just outside their outage boundaries at 13th and N, but the freezing cold shower I had to take this morning was awful!!

Walking distance to Ben's.

One Chili Half-Smoke and one order of Chili-Cheese Fries and you'll be all gassed up in no time.

Not sure we ever lost our gas in the 1100 block of Q St. NW.

As of 12:45 PM, Shiloh Baptist Church, Family Life Center and Day Care Center unaffected.

I just had someone from the mayor's office make a visit to my house. He asked if the gas had been turned on yet. I said said no. It looked like he had a listing of all the residences in the neighborhood and was checking each one. Last time this happened the gas was out for nearly a week...

Nice gmap, yo.

it's been noted elsewhere, but was this repair work that maybe washington gas should have thought about doing when it was warmer out and people weren't so reliant on gas service? or was this emergency work?

So, um...if my gas is out (and I live just inside the outtage zone depicted in the map)...that means I have to figure out how to relight the pilot lights on my furnace, hot water heater, and stove, doesn't it? And if the gas comes on, say, an hour or two before I get home, I should maybe air things out first? And what's more fun than airing out the house on a lovely day like today after your heat's been out all day?

Gosh, thanks Washington Gas!

Yay. My gas is back on. My SO just called to say that some washgas dude stopped by to help him turn the pilot light back on our water heater. I can't wait to take a shower when I get home.

Hmm. What I wrote sounds like a porno.

Maybe!

makes no damn difference to me. we use space heaters cause gas is too expensive

now i remember when the electricity kept going out in the summer. that was a bitch

That's not Shaw. It's Logan Circle East. At least that's what the real estate lady told me.
