@somegirl I'm not speaking for anyone else, but I know killing is a part of survival period. We're just having a little fun with her cause she's so dog gone cute. Kind of like of like the females in the French film 'Baise Moi', the femmes in the Greek film 'Singapore Sling', or Uma Thurman in the 'Kill Bill' series. Cute kick-ass women. Blood and guts. The female has always been a part of the killing thru-out history. She cleaned, gutted, and cooked the kill. Sometimes she even made the kill herself. Chickens were brought to the kitchen and she'd have to break their friggin necks. She's skin those damned rabbits. She went to town. God bless you killin wimmen.

Never thought I'd be defending Sarah Palin, but... killing things is part of life in Alaska. As she said - this is just a local business. Her constituents are going to be considerably less squeamish about acknowledging and accepting reality than your average city dweller who thinks meat is born at Safeway.

P.S. I'm no fan of hers, but I think this was (more or less) a "set-up" of Palin by the camera crew. You can tell the worker is surprised they're shooting with him in the frame, and he even does his best to minimize the visual impact of what he's doing. Whoever was holding the camera could have easily moved around so that he wasn't including the Turkey Death Machine in his shot. Also, since there doesn't seem to be any point where the worker picks up a knife, I'm guessing that the machine holds the turkey in place, includes a head-chopping blade, and channels the blood down into the tub underneath. It's not fancy and automated, but it's more than just an immobilizer.

All jokes aside, what strikes me is how it seems like the camera was held to perfectly frame her on the left, and a guy draining turkey blood on the right. It was perfect split screen, obviously the camera person wanted to get that shot just right- and they did. Most people looking through that view finder would have slowly panned left.

Christ, it's like DCisters been have never done farm work before. Considering how many Alaskans hunt/fish, its not like blood, guts, and head chopping is a totally alien activity. People need to toughen up and do some skinning/gutting/castrating of livestock.
