Bushes Sent Out Christmas Tree Hanukkah Invites

2008_1126_xmaswhitehouse.jpgJust how checked out are President and Mrs. Bush? The New York Post reports that they sent out invitations to Jewish leaders for a Hanukkah reception at the White House with a big Christmas tree pictured on the front.

The message reads that the couple "requests the pleasure of your company at a Hanukkah reception," written beneath an image of a Clydesdale horse hauling a Christmas fir along the snow-dappled drive to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
Nice. For her part, the First Lady's spokesperson apologized on Laura Bush's behalf, more or less blaming the mixup on the fact that neither she nor her husband really give a crap about anything anymore.

You'd thing that Jewish leaders would be accustomed to Christmas imagery during the Hanukkah season by now.

A horse dragging a tree. How offensive.

"thing" was meant to be "think." Obviously

i don't think offense is the main response - i'd venture (hope) that it's amusement. the fact that they're trying to invite people to a hannukah reception with the card is pretty awesome.

As a Jew I'm totally not offended and I doubt any other Jews really care, but still, it's a little tacky. Just what I'd expect from the Bushes.

Which is sadder this year? Going to a holiday party at the White House or my Uncle Jesse's.

If you think this is awkward you should check out their Kwanzaa evite. Who even still listens to Naughty by Nature?

As much as I loathe Dubya, I can't get too excited about this extremely minor (if that) Bush blunder.

I'm mean, c'mon, so what?

Nobody takes Christmas all that serious anymore, especially the Christians. If anything, I think it should be the Druids who should feel insulted.

They never get credit for inventing the Christmas tree, Yule log, or even mistletoe.

The Jews can moan all they want to. It's the Pagans I feel sorry for.

Actually, I'm a practicing Buddhist, but we don't believe in God either.

Although there is that legend of a coming Messiah, aka Maitreya, who's supposed to appear sometime down the road, I guess to rebuke global warming or the Islamo-Fascist terrorists who would like to run amok amongst us.

But I'm not actually holding my breath waiting for that One either.

BTW, if indeed Obama is the Anti-Christ he's lookin', as Larry 'Curb Your Enthusiam' David would say, "Pre-tty good. Pre-tty good."
