Carol Schwartz's Pencil Strategy

2008_1104_carol.jpgLike D.C. Wire, we've heard reports of "Write-in Carol Schwartz" pencils being handed out to voters, some of which have then been left behind in voting booths, in violation of electioneering laws. Could this last-ditch pencil strategy be just the ticket for a Schwartz write-in victory? Maybe, but City Desk is reporting that Schwartz has failed to get her supporters out to a number of important precincts.

Earlier today Mike DeBonis laid out a persuasive argument that Independent Michael A. Brown still probably has the clearest path to victory in the At-large race, which according to Colbert I. King would be bad news for Mayor Adrian Fenty.

So who will win the coveted 2nd At-large spot? We should know tonight, but keep in mind that it could take a while. The DCBOEE will only bother to tabulate write-in votes if enough of them were cast to affect the election. If it's clear that any one candidate has more votes than the number of write-in votes cast, that'll be that. Stay tuned to DCist throughout the night for updates!

Ba-Bye Carol! You've had your chance. Now go home.

please god, if we can't get carol back, just don't let it be michael brown!

What the heck was "independent" Michael Brown doing on the Fox News right now, representing the Democratic viewpoint. He even said "we" (as in Democrats.) [eye roll]

seriously, that guy needs to be put out to pasture. i just hope that the same polling firms that predicted a scott bolden blow-out a couple years ago are the ones calling this one too.

michael brown needs to go back to his house in chevy chase and stay there.

He was paired with Michael Steele. So they had a Republican operative paired with a "Democratic" one, who's actually running as an "Independent" for the DC Council. What a total crock, and makes a complete mockery of the Home Rule Charter. Michael Steele wished him "good luck in that local thing you've got going on."

well, we can't win 'em all...

Mayor Fenty probably wouldn't have to face the problem of council members aligning against him, if he weren't so spiteful and vindictive. It really is a shame, because he has a lot of great ideas that, with the right consensus building, would be accepted by most of the council and would have a shot at success. But Fenty would rather go down in flames than concede even an inch to council. I seldom agree with Colby King, but he is right on the money this time. Fenty's arrogance just might come back to bite him.

Arrogance breeds arrogance in subordinates too. There's Peter Nickles of course, and Dan Tangherlini, who is, as my grandmother used to say, "a real piece of work."
