Finding a newspaper by 9 a.m. this morning was a more difficult task than getting out of bed for the long trudge into work. But while trying to obtain a tangible piece of paper journalism for posterity might have been a futile task, your second best option is the Newseum's humongous online collection - 682 of this morning's front pages, all accessible from the comfort of your desk (or, depending on how late you were out, your couch). The site's moving a little slow with all the post-election traffic this afternoon, so we've highlighted a number of local papers - ranging in scope from large to small - for your perusal. You won't even have to put slippers on or grab some spare change this way.

at 9:15 AM I couldn't find anything other than a Washington Times (and yesterday's Politico) from any of the vending machines downtown. By noon, Borders had a sign on their door saying they had NO US papers at all, there were no papers form today- not even the Washington Times were left, and even the Washington Post HQ on 15th Street was completely sold out (until 4:30 PM today when they get in their run of "special edition" papers for today). Oh, and the Exxon at 23rd and M wanted $30 for their last copy of today's WaPo.
Madness, so much for the death of newspapers....
WaPo's front page doesn't really have a momento feel to it. I get home delivery, but hadn't even considered keeping it until I heard people were scrounging around for copies.
Newspapers selling like hot bread today. If I had a fancy Mac laptop I'd create a slideshow of national front pages set to 'Changes' by 2pac.
I have WaPo home delivery 7 days a week, and it was missing both today and yesterday when I left for work at 6:15. Either these thieves are waking up really early, or my carrier is hoping I won't notice that he's late.
I reported today's paper as missing, and they said I would get a new one. Think it will still be there when I get home at 6:30?
And just so there's no misunderstanding, that's 6:15 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.. I don't work only 15 minutes a day.
boondoggle: i can't tell you how much that line "we ain't ready to see a black president" went through my mind yesterday!
Found a WaPo box with THREE copies in it this morning at 9:30am, at the corner of 17th & T - jackpot! Shoulda picked them all up and sold them off...but it's a friendly, sharing day today.
Love how the New York Daily News cover is up there on the Newseum site (i.e., humongous collection) and has nothing to do with Obama winning the election. "Bloomy Wields Ax"? Huh? And in Newcastle, UK, they're talking about floaties. I guess that is newsworthy in the UK. Or maybe it's their equivalent to The Onion.
i'm so curious about my hometown's paper today...the birmingham news. from what i hear, some folks are devastated in a bad way. which disappoints, but doesn't surprise me.
totally off-topic, but realidealist, your misanthropic broccoli icon still makes me laugh.
i think my broccoli is sort of "off-topic" and irrelevant now.
I was bummed out to read in the Post yesterday a quote from some woman who referred to Obama as "colored." 21st century, people!!
