McCain Sends Out Unsolicited Pre-Election Email

mccain.JPGWhen I received an email from John McCain last night asking me to "Make History Tomorrow" by voting for him, I was somewhat perplexed. After all, I've never knowingly given my email to anyone who might use it for a conservative cause. Moreover, I wasn't born in the U.S. and am not (yet) eligible to vote, so does this mean that John McCain wants me to commit voter fraud for him?

This morning fellow blogger Nikolas Schiller emailed us to say he had received the same email; other blogs are similarly reporting having gotten the unsolicited McCain email.

Apparently a new campaign tactic that has been used by both campaigns is to match the name of registered voters to lists provided by third-party vendors. Well, we suppose spam is better than robo-calls. How many of you received the same McCain email?

Listen, Jack. For the last time: I'M NOT YOUR FRIEND.

Now please take your bank deregulatin', maverick peddlin', mailbox stuffin' self outta here.

*shudder* I got one and went to follow their unsubcribe link...but my options where three "I'm a McCain supporter but blah blah I get too much e-mail anyway" and one "I'm no longer a McCain supporter." Where the eff was the "My political leanings place me way out in left field, so where the eff did you get my address?!"

Interesting. I got one, but I'm on his North Carolina press list (don't ask) so I figured that's how he got my address. I can't imagine what list I'm on that would make me look like someone who could possibly vote for McCain.

i didn't receive this one, but i did get two telling me where to vote. funny, the map they linked wasn't even for Virginia!

Got one too. I've not received a single email from either candidate this cycle and then this morning there was an email from McCain waiting for me.

Looks like he's sending unsolicited spam - real classy.

McCain pals around with spammers?

I got one of the emails and wondered when I'd relocated to Florida (according to the McCain campaign where I am registered to vote). *grin*

I received that e-mail to my university e-mail address.

anyone an expert in the CAN SPAM law?

I've been on the Republican presidential campaign mailing list since 2000 when I signed up for alerts from both Gore and Bush as part of my job -- I was monitoring their stands on a particular issue.

The Democrats seemed to drop my email off their lists after the 2000 election. But steadily over the last eight years I get all the Republican propaganda. The email flurry has been especially heavy this past week.

this is no different than the unsolicited obama hang tags that i've found on my front door every day for a week. at least this isn't wasting paper

I got one, ugh. Also, like Elle, I was a bit vexed that there were no options on the unsubscribe page like "I'm terribly sorry; you must've subscribed me by mistake, assface."

CAN SPAM, like the Do Not Call list, exempts politicians.

I got the same thing and asked my friend who works on the campaign how Johnny Mac got this bleeding heart's email. He said the campaign has bought a bunch of email lists, which seems legit. Annoying, but legit.

After the election, he'll use that same mailing list to drum up clients to sell Amway products to.

yay! i didn't get spammed!
