Slipping through the cracks of this exciting election news cycle is this critical item out of the Shaw/Logan Circle neighborhoods: your dog park is complete! Check out before and after photos above of the new dog park at Shaw Recreation Field, on 11th Street NW just above Rhode Island Ave. The new park only broke ground a little over three weeks ago -- that's some fast doggy run construction. The fenced in dog area replaced a concrete fútbol rápido field. Neighbors had been petitioning for the dog park since last spring.

Man, they definitely need some more rules on that sign. Like "Dogs with obscenities shaved into their sides will not be admitted."
And who gets to inspect the dogs to make sure they're spayed/neutered?
I volunteer Hillman.
I much prefer jogging by the spirited soccer matches than dogs doing their business.
Besides, nothing says "park" like a big-ass slab of concrete.
Ha! That's my neighbor. My dog and I were there earlier playing with them. We must of just missed you. That's okay. I understand Sommer. It's okay that you did not take pictures of the awesomeness that is my dog.
Can we define "proper" disposal of dog waste? Would that include hucking the bag onto the rec center roof?
@mustachioed
That's not concrete, it's tiny white rocks and to the left is a swath of mulch. I much rather have the entire dog park be made of mulch but whatevs.
so it's a giant litter box, eh?
maybe the city should turn it into a cat run
what about pitbulls? can you have them in th DP?
ClevelandRocks, only if they are wearing lipstick.
If I was a dog and my owner brought me here, I would think I was being punished.
That's not a park - that's Michael Vick's backyard.
Aren't we missing a few rules:
- Dogs must bathe first
- Dogs wearing diapers need to have tight fitting protective coverings
- Dogs with seizure, heart or circulatory problems are advised to use caution
- Dogs are prohibited from being under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- No running or fighting in the dog park
lipschtick, on zee peetbool, oh shnaps!
Do dogs need to be drug tested too? No nandro-dogs please.
come on, DC! maybe it's just because i'm not getting the full effect or something, but it's like they hired the nurse ratched of dog park designers. don't dogs like trees? and squirrels to chase? can't they at least throw a faux fire hydrant on which to pee? i hear that WASA has a few that aren't being used.
"I much rather have the entire dog park be made of mulch" ... until all the mosquito eggs hatch
Who let the dogs out?
D! D! D-P-R!
Who let the dogs out?
Fe! Fe! Fe-enty!
Who cleans the poo up?
Do! Do! Dog owners!
dogs do need to have dc dog tags to use park. so get on it peeps.
wait, where do you even get a DC Dog Park tag?!
dept of health animal control. i think you can go down to the one on rhode island and show proof that you pup is up to date on all shots. then they will issue you a dc dog license for about $25
also, if your from shaw/logan join this list serve and you will be kept in touch with most of the doggie stuff.

Eleaman: You must first have a licensed dog, DC DOH can help you there.
On the site you can get your license and your dog park tag.
The skate park sign with its cement base has been ripped out of the ground laying in the skate park for years, the entrance to the skate park is a permanent muddy puddle, the field where the kids practice football is perennially beat up, the continuously used basketball courts have torn up fences and missing nets, and the library took years to open.
And the dog park went from proposal to reality in six months.
My Shaw insider informed me that the park is not yet complete, as they put the fence in wrong, the gates are not complete and the lighting is not put in yet. So, I don't think it is quite open for the public yet....
rob: yeah, says something about which constituency gets paid attention to in shaw, doesn't it?
The SO just called me (i'm at work incredibly hungover)to say that someone of the city put padlocks on the gates. WTF?? Who would put padlocks on the gates?
