Tony Williams Turns Vigilante

2008_1112_tonywilliams.jpgThe Reliable Source scoops everyone with perhaps the first heartwarming story about a former mayor Washington has ever been treated to. Anthony Williams personally stopped a thief on K Street yesterday afternoon. He was apparently walking by when he saw a guy nab a package from a UPS deliverman's hand truck. Our newly dubbed "Mr. Bow Tie" crime fighting superhero immediately started running after the culprit, catching up with him and getting the stolen package back.

"You used to be the mayor," said the surprised thief, who simply handed over the box of computer parts.

The man walked away; Williams said he started after him while looking for a police car but decided not to restrain him. The man slipped into the crowd as passersby asked Williams what had happened. "I'm just fighting crime in the city," he told them.

Hot. This seems like a really excellent job for the former mayor to take on. Williams already has a costume (the suit and bowtie are perfect), but can we get his H Street condo outfitted with some sweet gadgetry?

I want to know if his bow tie gives him super powers or does it enable him to fly away.

The thief recognized the former mayor? Color me impressed.

Between all the lobbyists and cronies on K, this is the thief he decided to stop?

Lame

It's a Nerd! It's a Plane! No! It's SuperDork!

Anthony Williams, still underachieving.

oh hot damn! how soon can we get a bat-signal-type light set up with a giant bowtie in it.

commissioner gordon/chief lanier can light that sucker up and shine it from judiciary square right into the bedroom of his senate square condo, i'd reckon!

Well that totally makes up for being asleep at the switch when Harriet Walters was robbing the city blind.

vigilante??? What due process was aborted? I'm glad the former Mayor helped out.

Evidently they still are ... have you ever tried to remove a name from the mortgage? It can cost a whole hell of a lot of money! And forget about calling the Recorder of Deeds ... evil and impatient.

This almost sounds staged.

Finally. A hobby Mr. Mayor can engage in daily mere feet from his swank new digs on H Street.

Yonas, why would something like this be staged?

8th Street,

Have you ever met the former mayor of DC? Not exactly the nicest guy around, nor someone one would expect to chase down a criminal.

Actually a *truly* heartwarming former mayor story would have been if the thief turned out to be Marion Barry.

Jaynuze, yeah I have. and the story is true.

Kudos to you Tony Williams! God knows any other person including many on this site (maybe even myself) would have cared less.

Instead of making jokes, maybe people should be giving the man props for standing up when we all know damd well we wouldn't do it ourselves.

where was this on perezhilton? jk
