Well damn, the introduction was going so very well until it got to the "...to accommodate inauguration tourists" part. Why stop with the inauguration? Let the good times keep on rolling!

Kent folk think they all that and a bag of chips. They don't got what it takes to live in Swampoodle or Terra Cotta or Stronghold.

Archaic neighborhoods monikers REPRESENT!

Monkey - the best part about cement blocks is you can stash your cheap liquor inside. Trailer trash cupholder. Patent pending.

"Those bleachers apparently cost $2.7 million, and the city has $15 million to stage the ENTIRE inauguration."

Don't worry, the remaining portion of this Obam-ination will be funded with private donations ... all under $5,000 each of course. ;)

Did you know there's a neighborhood in D.C. called "Kent"?

And Google saw it, and said that it was good.

Kent? meh. According to an old subdivision map in the Anacostia Museum there was once a subdivision called Sorcerer's Last Stand. I think it might be in the area of present day Congress Heights.

If I were Chancellor Rhee, I'd be working on some geography/gang material for our schools.

More importantly, how many of those people on the bleachers will be wearing Slankets? This becomes the key factor in whether or not I will watch the innauguration parade. Because if I want to watch visual pollution, I can watch "The Hills."

Oh, yeah. Kent is the neighborhood that thinks of the Pallisades as a bunch of riff-raff to the south.

Although, on the serious, Pallisades actually really did use to have a bit of a hickish vibe, I'm told. You can kind of see it looking at all those little cul-de-sacs south of MacArthur.

@tenleytownist

the more important question is: are the bleachers going to have built-in buttpads?

i would hope so. i would definitely hope so.

dear god, please let this 5 a.m. alcohol thing go off without a hitch. maybe then we can convince the city that alcohol sales aren't an inherently evil thing.

the D.C. Council is considering allowing bars and restaurants to serve alcohol until 5 a.m...

You want to say this is a solution in search of a problem, but that implies the DC Council isn't the problem.

Serving alcohol until 5a.m. each night? I bet that's making the MPD feel even BETTER about being able to handle all the drunk-arses that will be treating this like Spring Break 2.0: Inauguration Edition.

this is real insanity. Those bleachers apparently cost $2.7 million, and the city has $15 million to stage the ENTIRE inauguration.

This means we're spending almost a fifth of our budget on some bleachers!!!!!!!

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON?!

Two things

1. How on EARTH can bleachers cost $2.7million?

2. Who approved this, knowing we had such a minimum budget? Even if the budget is doubled to $30m, that still means we're spending 10% on one set of bleachers for the mayor and city counsel.

please, please, please, someone get to the bottom of this.
