Ted Leonsis has reached Facebook's limit of 5,000 friends. Leonsis has made more than 3,9002,900 friends since mid-April, when he blogged that he had almost 2,100 and asked, in typically affable style, "if this is winning, why do I sometimes feel like such a loser for being so connected? :-)"
Well, Ted, we don't think it makes you a loser at all. In fact, you're a great Facebook friend. This week alone you've recommended two great movies that are playing for free over your recent venture, Snagfilms. Of course, after watching the karate/voodoo documentary, The Deadliest Man Alive, we kept hoping for anything at all about karate or voodoo in We Will Not Die Like Dogs. Instead it was about the African AIDS crisis. Upon further reflection, we don't think it was a sequel at all, but it was still a great recommendation.
That's really a perfect example of how social networking sites are great for sharing news, culture and personal achievements with acquaintances we don't have time to keep in close touch with otherwise, whether they're old friends or just someone with whom we've had one great conversation. In addition to being a good online neighbor, Ted is a technology giant and a pillar of his local and global community. If there was ever an appropriate champion for lifting the friend cap (no, not the fried cap, the friend cap), Ted Leonsis is the man to do it.
Readers, we'll bet some of you are friends with Ted as well, or have friends on the internet whom you wouldn't otherwise get to talk to as often. We invite you to share your opinions: How do you handle friend limits? Have you ever been unfriended by someone trying to stay under a limit? Was it Ted Leonsis? How should someone handle that sort of rejection from someone so popular? Do you request them again? Why would you do that? They just unfriended you. What are you thinking? Don't be creepy. Give them some time. Meanwhile, tell us your story.
Well apparently an internet "friendship" only counts as 5/6 of a friendship requiring one to leave his or her basement periodically. So it took Ted 6,000 friends to reach his limit.
Irony meter broke. Real or made up? Funny or touching? Parade or Onion?
Ted hasn't beaten me in Scrabulous yet.
I poked Ted. And he liked it.
I wonder if Blelvis has a Facebook page?
Tom from Myspace still has this guy beat. Plus, Tom's my friend. I don't know who this guy is.

2100 + 3900 = 5000? Really?
