Good morning, D.C., and Happy Election Day! You thought it had been done for over a month, but today is the day that electoral college members from each state and territory will formally elect the 44th President of the United States. Maryland's electors are meeting at the Senate Office Building in Annapolis, Virginia's will cast their votes live on closed-circuit TV at the state Capitol in Richmond, and the District's vote will take place at 3:30 p.m. at the John A. Wilson Building.

Cheh Promotes Residential Protest Ban: As City Desk first reported on Friday, D.C. Council member Mary Cheh (D-Ward 3) is proposing banning protests outside of private residences in the wake of a series of animal rights protests targeting individuals at their homes in her Ward. Naturally, unions and the ACLU aren't taking too kindly to the idea, as the Examiner reports this morning. But what we're most curious to find out is how Ward 2 Council member Jack Evans, who himself was the target of protests outside his home over his opposition to anti-noise legislation, will vote on the bill.

Stabbing on Green Line: A teenager was stabbed at the U Street/Cardozo Metro station at about 9:20 p.m. Saturday, at the entrance at 13th and U Streets NW. Service on the Green Line was disrupted for quite some time after, as the victim then boarded a train and rode one stop north to the Columbia Heights Station, where he finally received medical attention. His wounds were not believed to be life-threatening. The Post somewhat oddly quotes a Metro spokesperson as hypothesizing that the incident was related to other recent violence -- shouldn't that sort of guesswork be left to the MPD? The Examiner quotes D.C. Council member Jim Graham as also pointing to gang activity as the cause for several recent attacks in his Ward, even though, as the paper writes, the "slayings do not appear to be connected."
