We are deeply skeptical of this New York Post item claiming that Oprah Winfrey is considering buying a home in Washington so that she can be closer to the Obamas. The notion that Oprah would consider uprooting her Chicago-based Harpo Entertainment empire is insane. If she's just thinking about buying an additional residence to use when she visits D.C., well OK then, she's one of the richest people in the world and can do what she wants with her money. Still, this just reeks of Page Six baloney, and we're laying down bets that it comes to about the same outcome as those rumors that Brad and Angelina were moving here.

Well considering that the NY Post said she's looking to buy a "$50 million" home in Georgetown, I'd say that's one hell of a pied-a-terre.
The only home selling for $50 million in Georgetown right now is Evermay. Although I'm doubtful that they really want to sell it. I think they're just using the listing as a negotiating ploy to get a license to rent it out, which they never got despite the fact that they rent it out.
Check it out.
It was only a matter of time before "second wave gentrification" brings hoards of affluent Black professionals into the city, forcing out the shortterm caucasian hiptard contingent. Won't someone think of the honkeys? What will happen to their trendy tennis shoe and teeshirt boutiques and cupcakeries? They'll all be washed away in a wave of jazz clubs, upscale soul food eateries, and ethnocentric bookstores devoted to Stella, her groove, and her gay husband.
It's payback time, cracker. And this time, Oprah's gonna hand you your ass. M-hmm. True dat.
i know one of Oprah's friends lives at 19th & R, so it may not be all that far fetched.
she can live with me as long as i can be the boss of her.
The title of this story should be the "Department of Who Cares Rumors"
I care! It's important to know where Oprah is at all times. You wouldn't want her to suprise you and eat your face. I mean, look at that picture. Her hands are out of frame, but you know she's reaching for some hot sauce.
Maybe Oprah bought Obama's Senate seat from Blago. It's a f*&^#$n valuable thing, and she could f(*$n afford it.
Just like Campbell Brown, if you keep saying The O word.....she'll appear.
Isn;t Kathryn Graham's old house on R Street up for sale? If so, I'm totally getting into a bidding war with Oprah for it.
i would guess the smart money would be on oprah, if spending that kind of money, buying a place in potomac, mclean, or some other gated community in teh burbs.
IMGoph: Everymay is its own gated community. Its gate house is larger than most homes around here.
Though in the grand scheme of things I and all posters here are among the richest people in the world, in the realm of the super rich Oprah Winfrey is hardly one of the "richest people in the world".
She is probably buying the place for her "friend" Gayle King.
Are Gayle King and Billy Jean King the same person?
pretty sure oprah could purchase an embassy if she wanted to.
honestly, if this doesn't involve dc residents getting a new car, i'm on the same page as mlwdc.
Well, "Rev." Jesse "The Emasculator" Jackson, Sr., already owns a house at 4th and T, so maybe Her Oprahness will move to LeDroit Park with all the other carpetbaggers and erstwhile Shadow Senators from Chicago.
Trinidad wouldn't be bad ... or Borderstan.
ledroitist: i thought rev. jackson sold that house. am i mistaken?
"Mayor Winfrey" has a nice ring (as in adding a 4th ring to our circus).
I heard that Oprah was trying to find a place to stay for a week in DC for, naturally, Jan 20th. and as soon as she realized no rooms to check in maybe she just wants to buy a house? ha ha ha. I don't mind DC becomes a town full of famous TV people, we're open for business for the next 8 yers, aren't we?
We're a movin' on up...
She's also going to have a 50% share in the Oprah Winfrey Network, the other half of which is owned by Discovery Communications (based in Silver Spring). The election of Obama just gives her more reason to be close...
