  • Download your copy of the report from the D.C. Council investigation into the Office of Tax and Revenue scandal here [PDF]. Read all about how the OTR had a "snitches get stiches" culture that led to Harriette Walters and co. being able to get away with robbing the city blind for 20 years.
  • D.C. Council member Tommy Wells will go ahead and introduce legislation that would amend the inaugural bar hours bill to roll back closing time to 4 a.m. between Jan. 17-21, and require nightclubs to pay $250 and bars and restaurants $100 for a license to be able to participate in the extended hours, via D.C. Wire.
  • Ward 3 Council member Mary Cheh says she won't be going forward with her bill banning protests outside private residences after all, via City Desk. Cheh must have gotten some real heat to turn around so fast on that one.
  • Suddenly noticing you can hear Metro station announcements much better? Turns out they turned on their new PA system. This also explains why I saw a woman jump and turn around on the Union Station platform today when the recorded "Excuse me, is that your bag?" announcement came on.
  • A compromise between At-large D.C. Council member Kwame Brown and Mayor Adrian Fenty’s economic development team may ease final passage of a land deal for a proposed $1.5 billion redevelopment of the Southwest waterfront, says the Washington Business Journal.
  • The "Shuttle-Bug" service, Southwest D.C.'s new, free bus service, will begin operating on December 17, reports SWDC Blog. The shuttle run between the Safeway, CVS and the Waterfront Metro to get around the construction site at the new Waterfront Station development.

The report on the Walters scandal is not pleasant reading. Its depiction of the OCFO (Office of the Chief Financial Officer) is not pretty, full of non-performance and laxity that could be ascribed to any number of DC agencies, and all too familiar for those of us who deal with District government on a regular basis. Too many people either looked the other way, or just didn't have the gumption to look into things that appeared a little "off." Lots of seat-warming and paycheck collecting, and not much else, in other words.

Again I ask: what was Tony "The Tiger" Williams doing during his two-term tenure as mayor? Hell, what was he doing when he was CFO under Barry? Didn't he make his reputation cleaning-up all these financial discrepancies?

On September 15, 2008, Harriette Walters pleaded guilty to federal charges related to the theft of over $48 million of District of Columbia funds.

Has this bitch been sentenced yet???

The wheels of justice grind slowly, relentlessly, painfully. Like when you're trying to digest a Ben's chilicheese halfsmoke. And I use the term "digest" loosly. Kinda like your stools after you've had a Taco Bell chilito.
