Go Home Already: The Shadow Knows

  • The WashCycle gives good news to anyone (like this DCist editor) who has had all or part of their bicycle stolen lately: there's going to be a used bike sale on Saturday at Big Bear Cafe in Bloomingdale.
  • The Citizens of Oakwood Street would like a few garbage cans and help cleaning up their block from DPW.
  • The death of a Northeast man who died hours after being treated by paramedics is under investigation.
  • In case you missed this post from Frozen Tropics on Monday, it's a real doozie, tearing apart a recent WaPo piece about H Street NE watering hole The Argonaut for vague generalizations and factual inaccuracies.
  • Bill Gates was in town today to ask President-Elect Obama to spend more money. Easy for him to say!

I read that WashPost article about the Argonaut and thought it seemed a bit off.

This just in: some Post interns don't know WTF they're talking about half the time, and their "editors" couldn't edit their way out of a pee-stained paper bag. So is the Post taking the City Paper route to profitability? Just throw some wordy crap on the wall, crowbar in some sloppy similes ("Red Lobster meets greasy spoon?" WTF is that? Did he ever GO to The Argonaut?), and get it in under deadline. If anything, I'd say Argonaut is a ghetto fabulous Luna Grill with fewer hiptards with strollers and cheaper food. Christ, if I ate a bowl of alphabet soup, shat in a fountain pen, and mailed it to the monkey house, I'd get better writing than that. And they wonder why nobody reads newspapers anymore.

Big Bear sounds like the place to be on Saturday if I want to steal a bike. Thanks, DCist!

we'll have snipers posted all around bloomingdale, monkey. we have our eyes on you.

now read how the hill rag writes up the argonaut:

article here (check the PDF for photos as well).

sure as hell makes it sound a lot less like a dump, eh?

Lamont Cranston was not known as a huge fan of public transit. Margo was a germaphobe.

I guess the Cloud Men's Minds Photoshop filter was busted on that one.

The Bloomingdale snipers are notorious for not being able to lead their targets. They couldn't execute a clean headshot if their lives depended on it. You gotta go to Suitland if you want a professional sniping job done.

Yeah, take it from me, Lee. You can't go wrong with a Mannlicher-Carcano.

creepy, but... nah. ME you need a tripartite name to be a REAL sniper cookie.

wait a minute, Monk E. Rotica? Crap!

The Argonaut HAS gone down hill the past year or so, now catering now to the Capitol Hill crowd with children instead of focusing on being a good neighborhood bar that once attracted a very diverse crowd. I haven't been there since summer because I can't stand it anymore.

It was interesting to note that the blog posting critical of the article was written by an Argonaut employee. I generally like Frozen Tropics but feel that a more obvious full disclosure is in order (that goes for DCist too, which could have advised the linked-to ost was written by an employee of the restaurant).

I ain't never shot nobody no how! I'm just a patsy!*

[*Notice the rare use of the quadruple negative. Am I lying or telling the truth? Maybe!]

Full disclosure: I'm neither a monkey, erotic, nor an empire.

Anytime there's been an article on something I'm personally involved with they get at least 5-6 things wrong.

I try to hope that's because I always get the shitty reporters, and not because everything in the newspaper is always that error-ridden.

That just shows how smart your average cab driver is. If you're so insensitive and incompetent that you can't even manage to pick up blind customers and rip them off, you really need to look into a different career track. Maybe something a little less asinine, like canine aromatherapy or malpractice law.

I hate the Argonaut. I went there for my birthday with some friends. It took forever for us to get served and the food was simply not worth the prices they were charging. I won't go back.

Glad I'm not the only one who has noticed that the Post has been in dramatic decline over the past few years. I would have to say they've fallen off the list of world-class newspapers for sure now.

Cemetary Station: last stop on the line. For everyone.
