Take Back What's Yours, Maybe

As 2008 expires, so does your chance to reclaim stolen property recovered in a sting of a fencing operation in Southeast. Police are leaving up the Web site featuring the goods through tomorrow. The Washington Post says that both trash and treasure will be put on display at the Armory for personal inspection Monday through Wednesday of next week. Police say that claimants will need to present proof of ownership to take home their stuff, though the report suggests that the bar may be set low for more common objects. You might at least get a look at the goods before they go on to auction earlier in 2009.

A "fencing operation"? Like, the art of swordplay that we learned in middle school?

So did these people steal the property after challenging the victims to a duel?

Nice that the MPD posted the stolen-goods pictures in a Microsoft-unique format that can't be read by Mac or Linux users. I mean, who the hell posts .MHT files on a web site?

WTF? Is the real webmaster on vacation?

thank goodness i'm reading this on my parents' PC instead of my usual mac then!

was hoping i would find stuff that was stolen from my old apartment, but that was almost 2.5 years ago now. guess that stuff is still long gone...
