Weekly Music Agenda

You know the holiday slow down drill by now, but if you're into DJ nights then this week is up to its ears in things that will make you happy. If you've got any other suggestions, leave them in the comments.

MONDAY

>> Dammit! The Damned are ill. If you had planned on starting your week with them at the Black Cat, you might want to make new plans, as the show is canceled. Maybe some bluegrass courtesy of The Hot Seats at Iota? 8:30 p.m., $10.

>> Apparently, so many people were moved by DCist Valerie's Three Stars on Caverns back in October, the band sold out the 9:30 Club. The other bands -- Chicago's Clutch, Russian Circles along with Viking Skull may have had something to do with it too. But we're mostly giving the credit to Valerie. Craig has a few options for you if you are still dead set on rocking this evening away.

TUESDAY
>> It's a holiday so big, you need to drink for it twice. Join The New Gay for their Pre-New Year's Party. It's free, it's friendly, and it's the only gig in town this very quiet Tuesday. 9 p.m., backstage.

WEDNESDAY
>> If you don't have one of these types of evenings lined up for NYE, consider the Fascinating Flying Circus party, featuring our latest and greatest Three Stars subject, Edie Sedgwick, Gestures and Soul Report DJs. $30 gets you entrance, 2 drinks, and the chance to countdown to 2009 with a roaming marching band.

>> The Black Cat, as always, plays host to Peaches O'Dell to ring in the new year. We spoke to her a couple of new yearses ago about the annual event and her general fabulousness. It's one of the most dependably fun parties the city has to offer, so keep it in mind if you don't have plans. With Tony Anthony and his Malvivants, and DJ Mark Zimin of Mousetrap. $25, 8 p.m.

>> I'm sort of sad that I didn't come up with the idea for a Zombie New Years Party. Thank goodness The Red & The Black is around to come up with the big ideas. With "hellbilly" rock & roll from DJ Mellie Mel all night long. $5.

>> Liberation Dance Party is one of my favorite things about this city. Join them for NYE and you can maybe walk away with an LDP mix tape, a free drink and some happenin' noise makers. $20/$25.

THURSDAY
>> While it's a day short of being Wu Year's Eve, we'll still take a visit from the Wu Tang Clan to the 9:30 Club as a good omen for things to come in '09. Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, RZA, GZA and Masta Killa for $50. Nothin to fuck with.

FRIDAY
>> Marquis, a monthly DJ night from the folks at All Our Noise, is back after a two month hiatus — with a new night (Fridays) and a new venue (Red Lounge) for the new year. Kick off your first weekend of 2009 with resident DJs Outputmessage and Micah Vellian, and a slew of guest DJs too. Downstairs treat yourself to minimalism courtesy of Swedish Columbia, or head upstairs for indie courtesy of All Our Noise. Free before 10 p.m., $5 after.

>> This is it. This is the year I'm finally going to see Gogol Bordello live. I'm dead set on achieving this goal, and luckily, the gypsy punk band from New York feels like catering to my desires. At the 9:30 Club, 8 p.m. And sadly, sold out.

SATURDAY
>> Serious question: what will Rock & Roll Hotel use to ply PYTs into their dance nights now that MillerCoors is discontinuing Sparks? I guess we don't have to find out quite yet. Head to their Mass Appeal party and enjoy the rarity and all of its kinetic nausea for just $3 (for the Sparks -- Mass Appeal is free). 9:30 p.m.

>> As it turns out, DC9 is addressing this issue with free Ole' E. The DJs known as KIDS are spinning, and Olde English is free before 10 p.m. Entry is free before/$5 after 10 p.m.

SUNDAY
>> It's the first Sunday of the month, so that means it's time for Galaxy Hut karaoke. Drink something delicious and sing in the new year. (Sorry guys, I had to throw one last bad NYE pun in here. I just had to. Cheers! Kisses! Champagne! Resolutions! Auld Lang Sine!) Free, 8 p.m.
