Few Inauguration Rentals, But Plenty of Guests

We've argued that the private home rental market for the inauguration has been seriously overblown. Few D.C. residents we've talked to report having successfully rented out their pads via Craigslist or other online listing service. But more and more, we are hearing that locals will be playing host to friends and/or family who are willing to crash on a couch for a chance to be a part of the historic celebrations. Are you hosting any guests for the inauguration?

Update: It appears as though the poll is broken. We're working on it.

Update II: It's not ideal, but since Polldaddy seems to be having some technical issues, we've temporarily switched to another poll service. Answer the above question at will!

Update III: We're having some bad luck providing a working poll on this one. Apologies! Please add your response in the comments.

subject hijack: these united states of tara ads are slowing down everything on my computer. how much longer are we going to have to endure having 4 or more animated ads for this on each page. it sucks.

take matters into your own hands: add more memory to your computer.

sure, mcgillicuddy, i'll get right on that. i have no problem with this on my home computer, but the G4 here at work is struggling, and i'm not funneling my own damn money into this.

i wish i could add more memory, but i am at work. these ads are REALLY annoying

How do you open any web pages at all? Seems like almost every site has those ads.

Agreed. My work computer is slow enough without these United States of Tara ads. Bring back Campbell.

Solution: Install the AdBlock Plus Firefox add-on.

@TW: the first rule of AdBlock Plus is: Do Not Talk About AdBlock Plus.

We can't install things on our work computer unless it's pre-approved. I'm sure there is a way around it, but I don't know what it is and I'm too lazy to find out.

Download AdBlock. If DCist thinks a significant portion of ad revenue is threatened, it'll institute some standards on the advertisements it accepts.

I'm hosting your mom on my couch. Maybe!

Ah, so childish, and yet it feels so good.

Then, to borrow a phrase, you're "seriously overblown"?

Huh, poll does not seem to be operational...

We've got 5 guests staying with us. Not including your mother.

I have more coworkers coming to stay with me that live outside the city than out of town guests. We have to be to work before 5 am.

Me too. Although, we don't have to be in til 6am. And the out of town guests are really just suburbanites.

i have been trying to rent out a room in my house long term, but most of my replies are for inaugural only stays. it is REALLY pissing me off. i cannot wait until next week.

i have two roommates, and between the three of us, we're having five guests. actually, that's just between two of us, b/c my other roommate doesn't give a crap. should be fun, i hope no one dies by the end of the week!

Still can't vote in the poll, but there's going to be at least 4 staying with us, in addition to the 4 that already live here, plus boyfriends. So maybe like 10 total? Lots of people sleeping on the floor or getting cozy on the pull-out couch.

Ass, gas, or grass, nobody sleeps on my couch during the inauguration for free.

You're likely to get gas and ass all over your couch, but not in the way you'd like. Febreeze is your friend.

five plus five plus friends equals a fun house for 3 days!

4 guests with us on our living room floor -- total of 6 people in the one bedroom apartment, with one bathroom. I've already talked to my neighbor about borrowing her shower.

Oh, and we live in the lockdown area by the convention center, which means they will all have to be escorted by us, to go anywhere.

Oh, and we live in the lockdown area by the convention center . . .

What? I've been out of town for six months and have obviously missed this story.

we are having around 30 friends from out of town and getting kegs and bands saturday and pretty much destroy everything as we're already getting evicted. SPRING BREAK!
