Federal employees who work in the District of Columbia, Montgomery or Prince George's Counties in Maryland, Arlington or Fairfax Counties in Virginia, or the cities of Alexandria or Falls Church in Virginia, are entitled to take Inauguration Day, January 20, as a holiday. But what about the USPS? The quasi-governmental agency doesn't get to take the day off, but at the same time, Secret Service measures will prevent mail carriers from delivering mail in parts of the city. The Postal Service sent us a breakdown of how it's going to work:
The Postal Service will make every effort to provide retail and delivery service to customers on January 20; however, congestion and road closures in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area may prevent us from providing normal service. Blue collection boxes in the vicinity of Inauguration Day festivities may experience late or next day pick up if vehicular restrictions prohibit access and personnel are unable to retrieve mail from the receptacles.
The following Zip Codes may experience partial or non-delivery: 20001, 20002, 20003, 20005, 20024, 20037. There will be no delivery to the following ZIP Codes on Inauguration Day: 20004 and 20006.
Below the jump, you'll find details on which Postal Service collection receptacles are actually being removed for the day for security reasons, and which retail post office locations will be closed. All post office locations not listed below will open for regular business on January 20. Keep in mind that Monday, January 19 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and that there will be no mail service at all that day due to the federal holiday.

So basically what you are saying is that mail delivery on Inauguration will be like any other day?
OH, and if you see my mail guy can you ask him to please stop taking my Netflix. I swear I don't rent anything interesting. At most, he could at least mail back the damn dvd's.
I'd think it would be easier to just say, "There will be no mail service in DC on Inauguration Day."
Because you *know* there will be someone who doesn't get mail service who isn't on the list of places they're skipping and will raise holy hell over it.

Great. No mail for me. Thanks a lot. I wont even be getting a Netflix movie to watch while i barracade my door with my non-existant shot gun (since gun ownership in the district requires you to stand on your head and rub your tummy while saying the alphabet backwards in order to qualify) to ward off inauguration zombies.
blittle - i have my netflix delivered to work. if you are fortunate enough to have a job, you should consider doing the same.
