I saw someone is selling them for $200 each. I think that is disgusting. If you aren't going to use them, then why buy them in the first place. Let someone who would actually go and pay the going price for them. If someone isn't selling them for the $25 they were sold for, it is illegal and they should be arrested.

I was on the phone and online at 1:00 and no dice! Shoots, if I ended up not being able to uses mine, I was going to GIVE them away to some good friends.

4 here too. Good timing on the refresh button here.

seanr, the small number of tickets was actually to leave more room for the non-ticketed public. Four years ago, there was basically no way to get near the parade without a ticket.

I tried online as soon as they became available and got nothing. Oh well. Guess I'll have to watch the parade from the comfort of my couch and leather chaps.

this is the lamest display of lameness i've ever seen.

unfortunately, to get one of those non-ticketed spots, you'll probably have to stand around for hours.

UGH. I failed, and I want four. My meeting ran late and by the time I logged on - poof! I'm still going even if I'm in the standing room section and it's freezing, because I'm an idiot.

Bypassed a weekly Friday lunch at Potbelly's in favor of maniacally hitting refresh and redial, got four for my troubles.

I tried, but alas, I can't type CAPTCHAs fast enough, especially when they look more like a Rorschach test than anything decipherable in English. Looks like I'll be freezing on the sidewalk with everyone else.

The bitch of it is, I don't even want to go, but the gf's mom will be in town, and wants to go like nobody's business. Then again, as a Marylander, it's not like I'll be able to get out to work that day either, given that all sorts of idiots and tourists will be clogging the road coming from Virginia to get into the city.

I'm so ready for this to be done.

I have dozens of bleacher tickets, actually. The org I work for "earned" them from the incoming administration ;-)

are you willing to share?

If I could, I would! They've all been promised to others :-(

I just clicked on the Craigslist link and love what I see. People go buy tickets and then begin listing them on Craigslist at 4x cost in the hopes of earning a quick profit. Prospective buyers, bitter at losing out, quickly go onto Craigslist and flag all of those postings for removal. Beyond awesome.

Yup, craigslist is gettin' rid of the scalpers!

sonofabitch, i keep getting booted from dcist. am i the only person who can't stay signed in to save my life?

i was trying to type a message out saying something about negative karma and selling these tickets for obscene profits. blah blah blah and all that.

"I saw someone is selling them for $200 each. I think that is disgusting. If you aren't going to use them, then why buy them in the first place. And I bet you never considered renting out your place for $1000?? And you never had great tickets to a ballgame and tried to scalp them for a profit?? As for being illegal, how 'bout if you buy my undershirt for $200, I'll throw in 4 parade tickets for free. Sound like a deal?

If you hate capitalism, feel free to move to China!

My husband got two. He's fast with the mouse. (I was trying too, and I failed.) We will actually be using them, not reselling them.

The secret to being fast on the computer is to use the mouse as little as possible...

I grabbed 4 tickets :), I will actually be using them not re-selling them.

I wouldn't rent out my place for $1000. I have had really great tickets to ball games, but only sell them at what I paid for them. It is illegal to sell tickets for more than they are worth. If you ever look at the back of the tickets, it says so. If you sell your undershirt and throw in tickets, that is a whole different type of sale. Also try spelling out words like about and you don't need to add a ton of question marks to make your point. It only makes you look like a bigger ass than you must be or a troll.

I never said I hate capitalism. I just don't think it is fair that the average person can't go to these events because of greedy SOBs trying to make a buck. If you need money that bad, then get a second job instead of ripping people off.

"It is illegal to sell tickets for more than they are worth."

That's not necessarily true in all cases. There are certain restrictions, but reselling (even for a profit) is not completely illegal. Point of sale is an issue (stadium property, etc). Heck, some leagues have agreements with scalping sites (NFL/StubHub).

I happen to like question marks. Ok?? And you don't need to resort to name calling just because you don't agree with what I'm saying.

There are a lot of events that a lot of people would like to go to. Because of supply and demand and the capitalistic society we live in, people can go to those events if they REALLY want to. Just depends on how much money you want to shell out. If you're lucky, you're able to buy the tickets at face value. If demand is really high, you can sell them for a profit. If demand is low, you may lose money selling them. That's your perogative because you own the tickets.

And yes, you're right that scalping tickets above face value is usually illegal, but so is driving above the speed limit. Don't be upset that you didn't get lucky. Either be luckier next time, or shell out the money if you want it that badly.

You were the one attacking first by calling me a socialist so don't get on your high horse and think you are better than me just because you think it okay to sell tickets at some outrageous price.

I am not upset that I didn't get lucky. I just don't think people should profit from something that is suppose to be for everyone. By raising the price that high, it limits who can and can't go. There is no justification for raising the price that high except for the person being greedy. If people are willing to pay that much, then they are fools for doing so and allowing people like that to charge that much.

Shame that you can't see the benefits of having things be more fair.

Also, we don't live in a purely capitalistic society. It is riddled with socialilstic aspects.

Understand????????????????????????????????

I didn't call you a socialist, I just said that if you don't like capitalism, then you should move to China. I agree that people are fools for spending tons of money to go to something that only cost $25, but that's up to them. Is it fair? Probably not. Does it limit who can and can't go? Probably. But there are a ton of things that aren't fair. Life isn't fair. When you add socialism in a capitalist society to try to 'even' things out, people still get hurt.

I didn't buy a house I couldn't afford because I'm not greedy. The people who can't afford payments *should* be out on the street, thus lowering the housing values to levels that I can now afford. But instead, we try to be 'fair' and find ways for these people to keep their houses, which in turn screws the people who did it right in the first place.

So what do we learn? Greedy people suck. But life isn't fair. Capitalism, with only some government interference, rules.

Dozens of ads on craigslist already. Selling for anywhere from face value to $1500!

As best I can determine, they sold out in less than 30 seconds. By the time I typed in the CAPTCHA code (which took me about 15 seconds because I entered it incorrectly the first time), with the clock still registered "1:00," they were sold out. Craziness.

Why didn't they just auction the tickets in the first place and cut out the middlemen? Sealed first-price auction, proceeds to charity, bidding open for 24 hours so everybody gets a crack at it.

Alternately, they could have had a lottery, so it was less about whether people got lucky clicking on the Ticketmaster site.

LOL, on craigslist there's a dentist willing to do dental work in exchange for tickets...

I created a profile just to comment on this post. I saw it featured on a article on google news.

fuckregistering PREACH!

I don't understand why people are surprised at the prices on Craigslist. THERE ARE 5000 tickets.! consider yourself lucky to even have access to someone selling them. I am one of those fortunate to have them. The PEOPLE set the price. If someone sells them for $25, they are doing it out the goodness of their heart. DC is making tons of money of this inauguration. Someone can sell their tickets and actually have the opportunity to get a plane ticket to attend.

BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME!
