Mayor's Inaugural Concert: Fall Out Boy, T.I., Young Jeezy

2009_1_16_fall_out_boy.jpg Mike DeBonis at City Desk received a note over the transom with details about the Mayor's on-again inaugural concert, and now it's confirmed. The Mayor is hosting an early party (doors at 7 p.m.) at the 9:30 Club on Sunday night featuring Fall Out Boy, T.I., and Young Jeezy.

DCist told you Wednesday that the Mayor's office was not hosting the D.C. Armory inaugural bash that the Washington Post's David Nakumara slugged in December.

A 9:30 Club representative told DCist that tickets to the Mayor's concert aren't available to the public. Even before the venue was finalized, Fenty's inaugural concert was billed as a fundraiser for D.C. public schools. Now, it's a "private benefit for the D.C. Public Education Fund." Anyone out there know how to nab some tickets?

Those of you with an in for Sunday's show might be bummed to hear that Fenty didn't nab Kanye or Mary J. Blige. Look at it this way. Performers like Jay-Z and Arcade Fire (who are playing at another inaugural ball this week) are not paid for their inauguration performances. They're in it for Obama or the love of the game. As many members as Arcade Fire has, they can probably leave a violinist or two at home in fair Montreal and still play a slim but mighty set here in the District Of. Jay-Z can play unplugged. (Hova and Arcade Fire are playing the Obama staff ball.) Kanye, on the other hand, must pay out of pocket to fly down his entire retinue, and as I understand it he can't operate the Auto Tune without a good dozen hypemen.

You know who's really feeling the 808s and Heartbreaks? Moby. The 9:30 Club scheduled an inaugural dance party for midnight on Sunday, featuring Moby behind the turntables. But you think there's going to be anything left of Sunday night after Fall Out Boy Dance-Dances the club to pieces?!

I just knew Fenty had to be a Fall Out Boy fan. He's probably into cutting himself as well.

I've been told that his mental age is close to 15, so it makes perfect sense.

Is Fenty an Emo or closet Goth? You make the call!

I wonder if Fenty does the "rawr face" or the "sucking cheeks while staring into a bathroom mirror while taking picture of self" picture on his myspace page.

Fall Out Boy, T.I., and Young Jeezy? You'd have to pay ME to go see that garbage!

Out of curiosity where are you getting this info for the staff ball? Any word on any other performers there?

I have to make a confession to my fellow DCist commenters - I LOVE Fall Out Boy. And I don't care if 25-year-olds are supposed to be too cool to like FOB. They are amazing live.

Anyway, if anyone can tell me how to get a ticket to this event, emo kid inside of me would be very grateful to you.

daft punk is playing at my house.

I was actually just talking to a friend about how AWESOME a daft punk performance would be at the lincoln memorial (actually, i was specifically commenting on who would play MY inaug. party if i were pres...). seriously it would be AWESOME!!!

much more awesome than this crap at the 930 club.

Let's see. Fenty can give tickets to the families of his supporters, donors, and the children of visiting celebrities, or he can make the tickets available to the unwashed general public.

Kinda know where this is headed....

I'm not sure how a "private benefit" and kiddies concert mix when you're trying to make money. If it's only for people who already are donors, will they be giving more money? And then are these 70 year old dudes going to see Fall Out Boy, or will they send their grandkids?

They should sell tickets to the general public for $100 (people would pay it) and have a sizable VIP/Donors area as well.

Looks like the Public Education Fund is about to raise 0 dollars. What no Chuck Brown? This is DC after all.
