MCCXXIII, a club whose name I type differently every time I write it, has closed, reports the Going-Out Gurus. Rents just got too high downtown. I wonder if that's true everywhere. Now that President Obama has taken office and started filling jobs with the people who helped him get there Clinton people, Stetson's on U Street has been restored to the glory it enjoyed during its heyday in the 90s. It might feel as though the Bush administration never happened on U Street, but you can be sure that isn't the mood in Georgetown. With Democrats ascendant, who will stay up on the right to drink those late-night shots? When will our young Republicans get back into the swing of things?

Wow... remind me to stop checking dcist on Sunday for anything. at. all.
Hey dude, this is vital.
Stetson's is where Jake Tapper picked up Monica Lewinsky.
He took het to out for dinner at Roxanne's on 18th Street in Adams Morgan. 2 counts of bad taste again Jake T.
Does that surprise you? They don't call him Jake "Ass" Tapper for nothing, my friend. I knew Jake quite well in those days, and he would screw anything that walked.
you said it caffeine
aaron said this was a slow news weekend.
What a shame - just last week I hooked up a III-some there with two XXII-year olds who could easily pass for XVIII.
"started filling jobs with the people who helped him get there Clinton people..."
Is this supposed to be a pithy, cogent insight? I bet the Prez feels really bad and will now turn around and offer jobs to Ashley Todd or the old woman who thinks he's a Muslim.
Here's a little hint - every politician who has ever been elected anywhere has done this.
I think you're confusing what's crossed out with what's added. Not every politician appoints his major primary rival and lots of her allies.
Damn. MYXLPLYX is closed? Wherever shall I go to loiter among the ghetto fabulous and drink "upscale" beverages like Remy Martin and Diet Coke?
Also, I'm pretty sure they never cleaned those beds. Just be thankful you never looked at them with a UV light. Ugh.
Thanks, Mike, for reminding me why I stopped reading the City Paper. Wow, XI years ago now.
Why so much anger, people? Is this your source for hard-hitting world news? One thing about the club with the way-too-long-roman-numerical-name: If that place, which had the longest lines of any club in the south Dupont area, couldn't afford rent, then what business can???
Anyone complaining about 1223 never took advantage of the 4hr, $20, all-you-can-drink, top-shelf including happy hour.
Tanq 10 & Tonic? Yes, please.
Landlords in South Dupont seriously need a wake up call. Even before the Great Depression II, there were a lot of empty store fronts on Connecticut below the circle.
Like Jane Jacobs suggested, having increased economic activity throughout a city relieves pressure on the "hot" districts. But only if the landlords realize that their neighborhood is not the only show in town anymore. Clearly the landlords around XVIIIth and Connecticvt don't realize that it isn't MM anymore.
Eventually the equilibrium will return and Dupont will be repopulated with interesting stores and restaurants, but until then, the landlords will continue to doubledown on the hope that a chain will take over their space. And in the meantime, more and more spaces will remain empty.
I think it went back to its original dimension when the club owners said the name backwards thrice
OH NOOOO, what ridiculously-titled bar am I supposed to make fun of now??!?!
Bar Nun?
also closed down. It's Pure now. I'm sure...
