Metro Center Fire Closes Multiple Streets

2009_0127_fire.jpg

Thanks to the tipster who sent in this view from her office window of fire crews working to put out the two-alarm blaze at 11th and F Streets NW. In addition to F Street currently being closed between 9th and 11th streets, we hear that portions of 10th and 11th Streets are blocked by additional fire trucks beyond F Street. Here's the AP report via WTOP.

Does anyone know which exact storefront is on fire?

My office has been speculating that it's H&M, which has caused a certain amount of tragic overstatement among the females.

Oh please please please let it be American Apparel and not H&M.

It is the old "Marital Aids, Martial Arts and Stun Guns" Newsstand that was closed down last fall. Interesting because I think the owner, Douglas Development, had been getting some pushback from the HPRB and the ANC over the property...wondering if any of those problems will exist anymore?

Unfortunately for Jemal, any new development at this site will now have to include not only the reconstruction of the original facade, but complete with historically-accurate soot stains and fire damage as well.

Oh, I remember that place - they also had a tattoo shop upstairs. Not that I was ever shopping for a tattoo, marital aids, or stun guns.

And they had great deals on abortions in their back alley. Every tenth one was free, but you had to remember to get your card punched.

...but you had to remember to get your card punched
I do believe that should be "junk punched".
