The family at the National Zoo expanded today! Everyone welcome the newest addition to the Great Ape House: this guy! Or girl! Born to 26-year-old mother Mandara and 16-year-old father Baraka, this infant's sex has yet to be determined. It may be a little while before this bunch of wrinkles gets a name.
For the time being, Zoo officials will be watching the western lowland gorilla infant's progress carefully. In a press release, Zoo officials note that Mandara is a successful and experienced mother, and officials expect her to bond with her newborn. Note that the parents have a somewhat unusual backstory: Baraka was a junior member of the tribe and nursed by Mandara before taking the top position as silverback. The Washingtonian ran a fasinating April 2007 story detailing the ups and downs in the House of Ape over the last few years. Suffice it to say, a birth represents a moment to celebrate.
The National Zoo uploaded pictures of the District's new primate, who appears to be a shy one. And you might be able to get a peak of the zoo at the Great Ape House — all the Zoo's gorillas will be on exhibit.

Make sure you don't post this on Facebook...
I told that bitch if she kept teasing Baraka by doing ungodly things with bananas, she was gonna get knocked up.
Exit question: How long will it take for someone to mention the name similarity?
The sex hasn't been determined yet? Here's a tip: Look for a wiener.

If you want to try prying a newborn infant away from its huge gorilla mom to do a detailed inspection of its bathing suit area, feel free. The reason they don't know yet isn't because it's hard to tell the difference, it's because the mother hasn't given them permission yet.
It looks like a monkey version of my Uncle Frank.
