Obama Express Arrives at Union Station in Washington

2009_0117_obamaexpress.jpg President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden arrived at Washington's Union Station and emerged from the "Obama Express" at just after 6:40 p.m. this evening. The "whistle stop tour" began earlier today in Philadelphia, then stopped in Biden's home of Wilmington, Delaware, and also in Baltimore for a public event at the War Memorial Plaza.

Obama gave speeches at events at each of the stops along the way, but opted to hop directly into his motorcade upon arrival at Union Station and head to Blair House without greeting the crowds gathered.

Reader James Servino sent in this capture of people waiting to greet the president-elect inside Union Station. Unfortunately, Obama would not enter the station, instead leaving in his motorcade from the back of the building.

That is what the media reports said was going to happen at Union Station, right? I thought about passing by on the off chance he was visible, but I wouldn't have waited in a crowd like that for something that was very unlikely.

I got lucky and saw the motorcade coming up H Street and turning onto Mass Ave. It was wild but just another reminder of how electric this city is right now. Loved it!
