Obama Watch Begins!

2009_0103_obamas.jpg They're heeeere! Well, almost. The District Department of Transportation put out a press release at the end of the day Friday alerting the public to parking restrictions and street closures around the Hay-Adams Hotel, which is where the Obama family will be living beginning this weekend until January 15. The restrictions go into effect overnight tonight, so it's safe to assume the Obamas will arrive sometime early tomorrow morning.

The following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic and parking will be restricted from 1 a.m. on Sunday, January 4 until midnight on January 15:

  • 16th Street NW between I and H Streets.
  • Connecticut Avenue NW between I and H Streets.
  • H Street NW between 17th Street and Vermont Avenue.

In addition, parking will be restricted on I Street NW between 14th and 17th Streets.

Pedestrian access may also be restricted to residents and delivery trucks and in the affected area.

and they don't say a damn thing about what happens to the buses that use that stretch (like the g8 that some of us like to use to get home to bloomingdale).

wtf, people? maybe we can move the president to a permanently undisclosed location, like on mars, to be more secure. that way, all us little schlubs won't have to be inconvenienced every goddamned day of our lives.

I still say that the president should be moved to Camp David permanently, like Louis XIV to Versailles. If they're forcing pedestrians to go a block out of their way in January, the transition team should be distributing coffee and donuts to those inconvenienced.
