A week ago we pointed out that Pepsi might be too closely exploiting the Obama logo and message for the comfort of their Republican consumers. Well yesterday on the National Mall, they continued to link themselves even more shamelessly to the new president by handing out tote bags with distinctly Obama-esque message ("Hope," "Yes You Can") and cards encouraging people to sign an open letter to America's newest leader by sending a text message to Pepsi. Beyond the wisdom of trying to make itself the drink of all Democrats, it seemed a little tacky for Pepsi to be handing out corporate schwag on what is something of a sacred day for America's democracy. Coca-Cola seems to be playing it safe, on the other hand -- the most they've done is run ads on MLK Day advocating diversity and service.

I saw so many Pepsi postcards (among many other things) littered on the streets on my walk to work today...thanks for helping trash our city pepsi!
maybe pepsi has been taking notes from michael a. brown. he littered the hell out of the city, and did he suffer for it? hell no, the man got elected.
Taxpayers are already footing the innauguration bill to the tune of $150 mil. You'd rather Pepsi kept its money and ads, thereby jacking up the pricetag even further?
funny...when I first saw the Obama logo, I thought, "Hey, that looks like the Pepsi logo..."
Are you really that surprised that Pepsi hopped on the Obama bandwagon? They are in it to make money. I admit Pepsi's new logo looks alot like Obama's branding, but I think that regardless of who won the presidential election, they would have geared their marketing to what the majority of the country wanted. I am wondering however, can any one corporation really be considered a republican supporter vs a democratic supporter? Perhaps. But both Coca-Cola and Pepsi are generous contributors to both parties. And interestingly enough between the years of 2000-2004 Pepsi and Coke both contributed more money to the republican party than the democratic party. Is that because we had a republican in office? It will be interesting to track the money for this term. Will more money be contributed to the democratic party? Only time will tell.
This is news? Seriously guys, we can do better! If someone is dumb enough to buy, or not buy, Pepsi for any reasons other than (1) price or (2) taste, then so be it.
