Having just dealt with a holiday break filled with sickness, Flickr user dharmabumx's shot of a piping hot bowl of chicken noodle soup conjures memories of its warm, soothing, mucus-ejecting benefits. I've invested heavily in Bangkok 54's tom yum over the past couple weeks, and think that some pho slathered with Sriracha will provide the needed final push.

Thanks to everyone who entered their photos for the DCist Exposed Photography Show.  We received a record number of submissions this year, 789 in total, which is more than 200 than we received last year. Winners will be announced next Wednesday.

That's a really disgusting picture.

At first I thought it was maggots or a blanched white brain. Either way, it has my flesh crawling.

Am I the only one who thought that was a bowl of maggots at first? No criticism of the food or the photographer, it just reminded me of something from The Lost Boys.

And Bangkok 54 kicks ass. Completely independently of its (apparently) frequent praise from the press I was brought there recently and it at least as good as any Thai in DC. Great space and service too.

totally looks like maggots in the thumbnail up at the top of the main dcist page.

That thing on the left side of the bowl (chicken?) looks like dog food in water.

Pho with Sriracha always wins, but Campbell's with Sriracha does in a pinch if you're too sick to leave the house.

See, it wants you to think that's a piece of chicken. It's a bait lure belonging to the Facef**king Fried Tofu Parasite that lurks just beneath the writhing mass of maggots. The "host" peers into the bowl, thinking "that looks like a piece of chicken" and before you know it, KERSLAP! You've got something that looks like a cross between an octopus and Spongebob attached to your face, having it's way with your tonsils.

I keep expecting something to leap out of the bowl, attach itself to my face, and make my chest explode. But in a good way.

Its definitely one of those instant soup packets that my office kitchen is littered with.

If seen this outside nightclubs on the sidewalk.

It looks like the bodies of dead aliens in the trunk of a Chevy Malibu.

you said maggots earlier, now you've changed your mind to shrimp. which is it?

It's in reference to the movie, Repo Man.

Plate o shrimp.

I think it looks like intestines. Whatever it is, it certainly doesn't conjure up "warm, soothing" memories.

I beg to differ. Nothing's as soothing as a warm bowl of spicy menudo, or even Trippa ala Romana. Now, a big bowl of maggots or a Facef**king Fried Tofu Parasite, no. Tripe done proper, most definitely soothing and comforting.
