U2 Confirms Appearance at Inaugural Concert

2009_0113_u2.jpg We recently got some unconfirmed but reliable information that U2, and not just Bono, would be playing a concert in D.C. during the inaugural festivities, and today another tipster emailed in to point out this announcement on U2's official web site:

U2 join a stellar line up of artists at The Lincoln Memorial in Washington this Sunday for 'We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration'. Don't miss it. It's open to the public and aired on HBO.
Yesterday's Presidential Inaugural Committee announcement said that only Bono would appear at the Sunday afternoon concert (it's scheduled to start at 2 p.m. and is open to the public), but it now looks like the full band will participate. If we hear that U2 plans to play anywhere else during the inauguration, we'll be sure to update.

Ick. People still listen to U2? Oh that’s right, no one under the age of 40 listens to them anymore. And of course Bono's ass will be showing up to steal..er, SHARE the spotlight. Him, and every other piece of s**t from Hollywood. Yay. Yay for this!!

U2 isn't from Hollywood. Neither is Springsteen. Or Garth Brooks. But don't let details get in the way of a good old fashioned screed.

I went to the Chicago show of the Vertigo tour (so 2006 I think?), and at least 1/4 of the audience was teens, and another 1/2 20-somethings. So yeah, you are wrong.

Did someone just say god was going to be there too?

Ohhhh, great!!! How many of the streets, bridges and waterways will they be closing for this?

Don't worry, they're only going to close off where the streets have no name. HA! I kill myself.

Maybe they'll play on the roof of the Lincoln Memorial?

@TX2DC: Mama always said, "Haters are as haters do."

Will Todd Palin be there to hand out snowmobile suits to the audience?

Is it too late to spring for Gary Glitter?

That's the letter U and the numeral 2.

So is Casey Kasem the compere for this shindig?

These guys are from Ireland and who gives a $h!t?

It's a long distance dedication.

I'd be more excited if Negativland were playing.

They are, but they'll be at the Nixon Memorial.

You mean the 50-foot sinkhole in River Road? I thought they filled that in?

He was a little dog named Snuggles.

I'm starting to think I programmed this show myself.

So are all the bridges going to be closed for this too?

The show I am really interested in is the MoveOn concert with Santogold, Moby and De La Soul. I have seen various mentions of it online, but can't seem to find the information I really need - like time, cost, or ticket sales.

Anyone got the inside scoop?

Read somewhere that the MoveOn.org party is invitation only...

That's what I have seen as well, but I can't even find information on how to get an invite, or who is being invited.

so are they going to play "One?"

Hey, an act worth listening to! How did that sneak through?

I would see U2 if they got BB King to sit in and open their performance with "When Love Comes to Town." Then, they could leave the stage, and BB and his band could take over and play the rest of the set.
