Click Click: Lenka @ DC9

Photos and words by DCist contributor Francis Chung

Lenka delivered more than an hour's worth of infectious yet intricate pop songs that delighted a capacity crowd at DC9 on Wednesday. People enthusiastically danced and sang along. The set was highlighted by not one, but two renditions of "The Show." She played the regular version (as heard in the Old Navy commercial) mid-set, then closed her encore with what she aptly called a "disco remix" of the song. It was a great show, which bodes well for her show at the 9:30 Club later this year. The opening band, The Spring Standards, were quite good as well.

wow, that's the shortest music write-up i've ever seen on the site. don't you have anything more to say, francis?

good photos, though.

yes, the spring standards were good, but i found their performance style a bit distracting. while it is impressive that they can all play multiple instruments at once, it takes away from the meaning i assume they are attempting to portray in their songs.

also, want to mention Lenka telling one of the members of the spring standards to be quiet while she did a song a capella. great road camaraderie after that i'm sure, but i thought she was right to do so.

Lenka puts on a great show, and thanks for the heads up about the 9:30 performance! it was very enjoyable, despite the rude, loud crowd i have come to expect from audiences in this town.

Ain't it the truth. I just don't get why people in DC pay the price of admission to go to a show only to talk (above the music) to their friends through the entire show. It's almost as if they go just to say they went...

Wait, hipsters going somewhere "just tobe seen"? Ya don't say.
lol

Nice shots Francis. She was pretty much the perfect subject (any performer who regularly makes eye contact with cameras = awesome, and the one you got of her grinning at you is priceless).

IMGoph: More words on the show here.

(Er, sorry if that is blatant self-promotion.)

I swear, every time you make one of these Click Click posts I think you're talking about Click Click the band. I get all excited and then.. "oh not THAT Click Click"

Le sigh
