DCist Exposed Another Smashing Success

Here we are again, blown away by those of you who came out to celebrate the talents of our local photographers. This year we had one special new thing: a door counter. DCist and Flashpoint were thrilled to greet 1,036 visitors to this year's Exposed Photography Show (and makes us wonder if we've been lowballing that number in previous years). We can't thank you enough for coming out to the show, waiting in the cold in a line that formed around 5:40 p.m., and supporting our little venture. You guys are what makes DCist Exposed a success.

If you couldn't make it last night, or just need to see the show again without the crowds, remember, the exhibit runs through March 7. Flashpoint's hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 12 to 6 p.m. All 45 photographs are for sale, so be sure to talk with someone at the gallery, or email me at heather[at]dcist.com for purchase information. We had a ton of help putting the show on this year, so let's get to some formal thank yous.

The folks who run the Gallery at Flashpoint were an enormous help this year. This non-profit space chose to run our exhibit in their 2008-2009 season out of the many entries from artists and curators they receive every year. They support emerging or unique shows, providing support in a number of ways -- not the least of which was taking a larger-than-usual load off of DCist's shoulders last night in managing the crowd, serving refreshments (with drinks donated by Barefoot Wine), and dealing with sales. In particular we'd like to thank Karyn Miller, the Program Manager for the Cultural Development Corporation, who worked with us closely to make sure Exposed came off without a hitch. Flashpoint has always been one of our favorite art spaces in town, and we can see now that it's the dedicated and energetic group people behind it who keep it that way. We hope you will continue to support Flashpoint and all the art, dance and theater that they support.

We want to give a huge thank you to DJ TEN, who volunteered his time last night to keep us grooving in the gallery. If you'd like to hire DJ TEN for future events, you can contact him through Fewsion Media. Thanks also go to Hedrush Music who provided the sound equipment.

Lastly, we can't thank enough the photographers who participate in our show every year. We created this event three years ago for two main reasons. Partly, it was because we noticed the increasing number of hands-down amazing photos showing up in our Flickr pool, and knew we could easily fill a gallery many times over with them. But largely, we hoped to do this as our "thank you" to the thousands of photographers who let us use their work to illustrate our site every day. We hope the excitement behind Exposed gives you the motivation to keep picking up your cameras everyday and the inspiration to find the unique moments in this city for which we eagerly wait.
