As pointed out in comments, it looks like we did indeed speak too soon. Lena Sun reports:
The vacuum truck that derailed this morning and caused major delays has derailed again. That means riders between Ballston and West Falls Church can expect delays this afternoon, officials said.
The second derailment occurred at 1:56 p.m., just 10 minutes after the morning situation had cleared, spokesman Steven Taubenkibel said. Trains will be sharing a sincle [sic] track between East Falls Church and West Falls Church until personnel can get the truck back on the tracks.
And here's the notice from WMATA: "Disruption at East Falls Church. Orange Line trains are sharing the same track between East Falls Church and West Falls Church stations due to emergency track work. Expect delays in both directions. Expected duration up to 2 hours."
Despite this 2-hour estimate, we'd recommend hunkering down for a happy hour, Orange line riders. We know you know how to handle bad delays, based on previous experience.

ok, when do we get to laugh at the misfortune of those who need to head back through the tunnel to get home?
ORANGE LINE FAIL
I am an adult professional, and I called my mommy to come pick me up rather than brave the Orange Line again this afternoon. I diverted to a bus this morning, and it was not a fun experience. But that's not an option beyond Ballston.
My mommy loves me; she agreed without hesitation.
Vacuum trucks? Metro should just buy some Roombas
and call it a day
"Hey, that vacuum truck that screwed things up royally this morning for thousands of people? Yeah, it probably totally just fixed itself. It's cool, let's send it back out again."
A vacuum truck, huh? That sucks.
And for the second time in a single day, Metro is unable to get eAlerts to the people who signed up to be informed of just such an incident.
It's almost 5 p.m. and still haven't gotten one. This morning, my first alert was at 8 a.m.
I didn't get an eAlert either!!!
I found this blog recently and seems to have struck a chord: UnsuckDCMetro
Do you think Metro execs are paying attention to public outrage of their services? Do we really need to point out the Dell Hell example?
I hate to be that guy, but something is or was FUBAR not FUBARed. The F is already conjugated.
Now I have to go kill myself for being that guy. Thanks Sommer.
