Via WTOP, the CBS News Political Hotsheet blog reported a quote from an Obama spokesperson that we missed last week: President Obama still hasn't decided whether he will put the District's "Taxation Without Representation" license plates on his presidential limousine, and is in fact still using the plates that President Bush used.
It's "just something that the president hasn’t gotten to yet," said the spokesman.
WTOP's story gets a little hysterical at the top, claiming that Obama's limo "won't have a 'Taxation Without Representation'" (emphasis added) plate, but it's clear this is just something that hasn't yet made it to the top of the president's to-do list.
Of course we'd like the president to place the plates on his limo, but given that he's only been in office for a month and he's had some other stuff to do, maybe it's a little bit early to freak out about this one yet.
The U.S. Senate is scheduled to vote on the D.C. Voting Rights bill on Tuesday, which would grant the District a single voting member in the House of Representatives. Obama has promised to the sign the bill should it pass both the Senate and the House.

Funny you should mention that. I asked Obama about that during the campaign, and he hates you annoying cyclists as much as any motorist :-)
You're failing to see the real reason he won't use the new plates: he can't GET the new plates because he refuses to show his birth certificate! Which he will never do because then everyone will realize that his real "christian" name is "Osama Obama bin LYIN!" I read it on the Internet! This is exactly what happens when you elect a Kenyan terrorist antichrist to the White House, the notable exception being James Buchanan.

Why the hell does the Presidential Limousine need a license plate anyway?!?!? I mean really! What purpose does it serve?
To show that even the President isn't above the law. He has to have license plates just like anyone else, even though he doesn't have to obey any of the rules of the road, or stop at stop lights, or pay for parking, or pay parking tickets, or even stop after he's run someone over. But he does have to have license plates.
Maybe he's like normal people?
He's been really busy and hasn't had time to get to the DMV.
At the very least, you'd think he'd have a vanity plate. Like 4-CHNG, or L8R-W.

Umm he did go to the DMV but he couldn't verify his address without a utility bill, lease, or mortgage document so he couldn't get a dc license. No license, no plates.
This just seems like the administration is pointlessly annoying DC folks at this point. The question has been out there for months. It's not something that requires research and pondering. Obama doesn't need to change the license plates personally. It shouldn't be controversial, since Bill Clinton used the plates previously. Obama has made clear that he supports DC voting rights (and even statehood). So what's the problem with putting on the damn plates?
I believe Clinton used the plates on his last day in office. Hardly the stuff of political courage or principle.
It is a good question why Limo One has DC plates rather than US Gov't plates.
But are the great many DC folks annoyed at this? Do people really think they give a flying funk about this issue? Seriously, if he can deal with the economy, the world, and all the other messes Bush left this country in, I could give a rat's ass if he uses any license plates or just a post-it note with a smiley face and some bumper nuts.
The question is why he's not doing it. It seems very strange that he's continuing to hold out on this if he supports DC voting rights. What is the point?
More effort has been expended on answering whether he's doing it than would been required to just put the plates on -- it's not something that takes time away from dealing with "the economy, the world, and all the other messes Bush left this country in". The inability to make even this truly minimal effort doesn't bode well for future actions supporting DC.
The real question is, why are DC folk such whiners? Boo-hoo, the President isn't listening to your license plate suggestions. Frankly, I'd be pretty upset if anyone took a second of his time asking him about the freaking license plate on his car. What a waste of time.

It would be nice if Obama came out in favor of abolishing the Federal income tax for DC, but I just don't see that happening. It wouldn't go along with his plans for "all government, all the time" to solve all problems. Pretty soon the government will even be in your bathroom wiping your butt for you.
Didn't you read that they stripped the government workers-wiping-our-butts provision from the stimulus package? The toilet paper industry mobilized their lobbyists and next thing you know, gone. Why they ever privatized the toilet paper industry is beyond me...
