It's been a tough morning for WMATA crews working to clear the derailed maintenance vehicle from tracks outside the Courthouse Metro station—the estimates for when this problem is going to be cleared up keep getting pushed back. Here's the story so far, as told through emailed METRO Alerts:

7:58 a.m. Disruption at Court House. Orange Line trains are sharing the same track between Foggy Bottom-GWU and Clarendon stations due to emergency track work. Expect delays in both directions on the Orange & Blue lines through the end of rush hour service.

9:47 a.m. Disruption at Court House. Orange Line trains are sharing the same track between Foggy Bottom-GWU and Clarendon stations due to emergency track work. Expect delays in both directions on the Orange & Blue lines. Expected duration up to 2 hours.

11:40 a.m. Disruption at Court House. Orange Line trains are sharing the same track between Foggy Bottom-GWU and Clarendon stations due to emergency track work. Expect delays in both directions on the Orange & Blue lines. Expected duration up to 1 1/2 hours.

In other words, no one really knows how much longer this might take.

Poor @DCMetroOrange. If that were a real Twitterer, he'd be all emo right now.

The start of it was definitely before 7:58 this morning. I got on the train a little after 7 and it was already going on. It was amazing how badly this whole thing became.

Yeah it took me an extra 20-25 minutes to get to work, which is a 3 station commute. Not much fun, but at least I'm not coming from VA or going further into town.

Whatever actually happen must be a real shit storm.

Actually, I heard the root cause was indeed a real shit storm. Blew that car right off the track! WASA can't buy a bucket these days...

As long as its mopped up by tomorrow night cause its my bday and we have a res at Ray's

happy early birthday, west!

way to go, wmata. i know you have to give an estimate of how long things are going to be screwed up, but you sure didn't pull a mr. scott with this one.

Ray's takes reservations? Which location?

Yeah, the new location actually takes phone reservations! Apparently they set so many tables aside for call-ahead reservations and so many for walk-ins/walk-in list.

Thanks IMGoph

Their Silver Spring outpost (Ray's the Classics) also takes reservations, and always has.

My next class is hopping on the O line in that direction, and when we reach our destination I have to teach the class. GO ORANGE LINE DELAYS!

(Am I the only person benefiting from this?)

Got on at Ballston at 9, got to McPherson at like 10:15, luckily WestWorld on the iPhone got me though it.
