AlertDC lets us know that Pepco is on site at 18th Street and Columbia Rd. NW in response to a smoking manhole cover. DDOT spokesperson John Lisle follows up that Columbia Rd. NW has been closed between 18th Street and Kalorama Road as a result of the manhole emergency and smoke, and traffic is being diverted. Pepco, FEMS and the MPD are all on the scene. DDOT says it has also deployed Road Operations Patrol units and Traffic Control Officers to assist with traffic in the area.

I originally read that headline to say "Smoking Manpole" but Smoking Manhole works, too. In fact, it's fantastic. There always seems to be something sexy happening on Columbia Road. It's not just for vomiting Jumbo Slice anymore! And look at that! It's right off Euclid! If there's any street that deserves to be destroyed by giant goatses, chainsmoking CHUDs, and Morlocks with hookahs, it's Euclid.
Smoking Manhole sounds like the aftermath of a trip to Ben's Chillibowl. Also this smoking manhole will have to stay outside of Virginia bars.
Time to pass a ban on smoking manholes.
The only thing more dangerous than a smoking manhole is sexting while smoking a manhole. But at least you don't have to ask for a post-sexting cigarette and a towel. Because they've already banned that. Unless you're doing it in one of those privately owned smoking manhole sexting clubs with the all-you-can-eat taco bar.
