>> Chromatic Mysteries is a new ensemble that features members of free jazz pioneers such as the Sun Ra Arkestra, Bardo Pond, and Kohoutek. >> Saxophonist and renaissance man Oliver Lake gave an impressive performance the last time we saw him, at the Kennedy Center. If you want to see him in a more intimate setting, head over to Twins Jazz on Friday or Saturday for his 9 and 11 p.m. sets. Tickets are $20.

>> Three Stars alums and DCist faves The Young Lions will be performing 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. sets this Friday and Saturday at Bohemian Caverns. If you haven't seen monster pianist Allyn Johnson & Co., you're missing out on some of the best jazz this city has to offer. Tickets are $15.

>> We've already told you about the vibrant music scene surrounding the Bossa Bistro & Lounge. Our pick of the week takes place there on Sunday, as keyboardist Dan Roberts and other regular performers at the club will celebrate the release of Roberts' album, Can't Not. >> To call Christylez just a rapper is to do a disservice to one of the city's most ecclectic artists, and his performance at Bohemian Caverns on Sunday with Nigerian native KUKU is just one example of how he is stretching boundaries. Tickets to the 7 p.m. show are $10.

>> Last month we featured saxophonist Brad Linde as one of our Three Stars. On Monday, he will be leading a group at Blues Alley to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Thelonious Monk's legendary Town Hall concerts. The 10 piece band will perform transcriptions of the original arrangements, and will premiere new works and arrangements written specifically for the ensemble. Tickets to the 8 and 10 p.m. sets are $18 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.

>> Pianist Wayne Wilentz has been a mainstay of the local jazz community for some time and is also an authority of Latin jazz. On Tuesday, He will be playing an evening of Brazillian jazz with his trio at the Bossa Bistro & Lounge. 9:30 p.m. No cover
