Ward 8 D.C. Council member Marion Barry had planned to be in attendance at today's D.C. Council legislative session, but NBC4 first reported this morning that he wasn't there when the session began at 10 a.m., and now D.C. Wire follows up with word that Barry's doctor ordered him to stay home.
Barry underwent kidney transplant surgery on Feb. 20.
The Council member had been expected to introduce emergency legislation today to force the University of the District of Columbia board to hold off on its recently approved tuition increase. The legislation wasn't expected to have broad support on the Council.

Now can someone please explain to me how this man is not in jail, let alone "back on the job?" Let me get this straight: don't pay taxes for 5 years, get probation. Violate probation by not paying taxes again, stay on the city council! I'm sorry for his health issues, but his first stop after surgery should be a fed. pen. D.C. has come too far in it's local politics lately to let this guy skate off once again.
P.S. I know he has a hearing coming up. But the timing of all of this is very fishy.
Apparently no jail can hold him!
