Jim Graham (Ward 1-FMLN)?

graham1.jpg Good elected officials know their constituents, and in that Council member Jim Graham (D-Ward 1) has excelled. Graham has represented the District's most diverse ward for the last 10 years, easily offing challengers by remaining accessible to his constituents and making his presence known both in times of celebration and crisis. Heck, it's near impossible to miss a guy with orange glasses and a bow-tie driving a VW Bug from Columbia Heights to Adams Morgan and Mt. Pleasant to Shaw.

Yesterday, we spotted the council member's signature Bug parked in Mt. Pleasant, and visible through the windshield was a small red flag bearing the letters "FMLN." For those of you who don't regularly keep up with Latin American affairs, the FMLN is a former guerrilla group and now progressive political party in El Salvador whose candidate, Mauricio Funes, just won the presidency of the tiny Central American country.

After inquiring with his office, Graham confirmed that the flag was his and that he had displayed it for "over a year." He spoke highly of Funes, whom he met both here and in El Salvador on one of his five trips there. "I'm very excited for the vision he brings to El Salvador," Graham said of Funes.

So why would Graham be openly displaying his support for the FMLN? Because so many Salvadorans make the District home, and of those a large proportion can be found in Ward 1. Though smaller in number than Mexicans, Salvadorans in the U.S. are the largest Latin American immigrant population as a proportion of the number of people in their country. The estimated 3 million Salvadorans in the U.S. make up 45 percent of their homeland's total population and send back almost $4 billion in remittances annually. The Washington region is home to almost 200,000 Salvadorans, and Salvadoran presidential candidates have been known to come to the area to campaign. Basically, it's good constituent relations for Graham to be flying the FMLN's colors, especially in Mt. Pleasant.

martin: cool! thanks for the background. good article, and this isn't something you'll find on any other news site today. here's hoping if someone else picks it up they acknowledge you guys with the scoop!

So this is a summary of the idiotic comments I read here:

1- "I hate Salvadorans but I'm not anti-immigrant even though I don't want them in my streets. Even if most likely I descend from immigrants too. Hey, who cares if I live in a city that is only 208 years old, which lays on the land of the Piscataway indigenous peoples -who in time were displaced by the European immigrants, who brought African slaves against their will, and all of whose descendants now feel displaced by the Salvadoran Nahuatl indigenous immigrants."

2- "Don't reelect Graham for a fourth term, because he puts silly flags in his car and he can't park correctly..."

3- "The killing, rape, kidnapping and disappearance of over 70 thousand Salvadorans in a war that lasted decades, and which was financed by Reagan and Bush father, that's not a war..."

4- "We must relate gangs with immigrants from Central America so people would hate on them, no matter how racist and ignorant that is. And lets ignore the fact that gangs were born in the US, and that today they are used by right-wing mafias in ES and US to control the drug trafficking from Colombia on its way to US cities, including your Mount Pleasant streets."

5- "I'm so shameless I think I can make jokes out of people's suffering and sad memories, I don't give a shyt, I grew up being a monkey... but still I think I'm better than you..."

You are welcome, de nada.

Carlos, get the stick out of your high and mighty ass and stop hatin on people who pass the time making stupid remarks on a message board. In case you haven't noticed, you've become one of us.

One of us. One of us. One of us. One of us. One of us.

Ich bin ein Klevelander!

Double Jawohl, bitches.

Rootie Kazootie!
Kiss my bootie!

Für Schizzle
Meinen Hizzeln.

Schlameel Schlamiel
Schotzenpepper Corporated.

thanks for putting the list together, i guess. i have no idea why you addressed it to me. but thanks. really. thanks.

He was just threadjacking to get at the top.

Very upset that talk of Jim Graham's El Salvadorian Man-crush will override "guns" as Martin's greatest traffic troll.

It's been an open secret that the Ward 1 Councilman openly associates with known communists and fellow travelers. So what if he proudly flies the banner of a left-wing deathsquad? Who cares? Just so long as he doesn't pull any more liquor licenses.

Didn't notice the flag last night, but I did see the car: parked illegally, like it's been every time I've seen it anywhere around town.

Pfft! Worthless laws don't apply to Party members of glorious Central Committee. In Soviet Mount Pleasant, car parks YOU!

Actually, if I understand the statute correctly, a Council member's car can never be illegally parked within the city limits . . .

Good for Grahamtastic, continuing to make nice with the Salvadorans. Turns out, he IS actually smart enough to know not to bite the hand that feeds.

Cool story, Martin!

"I'm very excited for the vision he brings to El Salvador," Graham said of Funes.

I'm sorry, but El Salvador is a basket case. Why do you think almost half their population LIVES IN AMERICA? They scrapped their own worthless currency and linked their economy to the Dollar. They've got a massive drug-fueled crime rise (where do you think MS13 comes from anyway?) and an inept Socialist bureaucracy that's just begging for a return of right-wing death squads. If this is the kind of government Graham looks to for inspiration, you're in a lot of f**king trouble. Fortunately, he's probably just playing lip service to his constituents.

Thank you Monkey. You put sense to my angry fragmented thoughts. Thinking and typing like William Shatner acting,
I am.

Interestingly, monkey, MS 13 comes from LA. And the massive wave of immigrants is largely a result of a civil war we funded! And the FMLN has not been in power since the war ended 18 years ago, so I'm not sure why you think their bureaucracy is Soviet style. Under ARENA's rule they became signatories to CAFTA, use the US dollar, and in every possible way mimic the free market ethos of the US. So, I'd say we pretty much broke it and bought it with El Salvador.

Splitting hairs, really. MS13 did start in LA as a means to combat the Mexican Mafia, but was comprised overwhelmingly of Salvadorans. It did spread to El Sal when a bunch of MS13s got deported back to El Sal as part of LAPD's methods to crush the gang. Unfortunately, it had the opposite effect, and gave MS13 a massive foothold in El Sal, as well as a much more viable means of spreading across the country...which it most certainly has...been to Ballston lately?

Yeah, I watch Gangland...what? :)

Well, Ballston could definitely benefit from a few more machete slayings, particularly that guy who goes overboard with the salt on my collard greens at Whitlows.

Right, the ongoing cycle of deporting Salvadorans (begun by a refusal to recognize them as war refugees in the first place, since we were the ones propping up their abusive right wing government and didn't want to admit we were funding war criminals) is certainly responsible for the spread of MS-13. So anti-immigrant attitudes like Monkey's and Deep's are counterproductive as well as rooted in ignorance of history.

Dude, there was never any "war" in Central America. You can't have a "war" unless Congress declares one.

Also, we didn't lose Vietnam. It was a draw.

dude I don't really have time to school you in the bare bones basics of recent history in the US and central america but there was indeed a war in El Salvador. A civil war. In which we intervened heavily. I'm not trying to make this a history lesson, but you'd be better off keeping your mouth shut if you don't know anything about a subject. Just keep your comments to hating Graham, ok? I think there is plenty of material there for us to agree on.

See, I don't get where you're getting this "anti-immigrant" thing from. I'm not anti-immigrant; I'm anti MS13. We've got our own drug dealers in DC to take care of and these guys come in and take their livelihoods away. Why do you think PCP is making a comeback? Because it's a lot easier to make and distribute than dealing with the Medellin markup or paying the transport fees associated with getting heroin from SE Asia, and MS13 took over most of the heroin trade in DC in the 1990s. And how many condoms full of the stuff do you think an old Afgani lady can swallow before she passes out? It's not even worth smuggling anything out of Afghanistan anymore. Now I'd have no problem with MS13 if they'd just learn to play by the local rules: drive an Escalade with narrow tires, wear poopy pants that fall down when you run, drink Remy Martin and Diet Coke, and NO MACHETES. There's plenty of customers to share. That's what makes America great; we've got 80 percent of the world's wealth, we consume most of the narcotics, we have no f**king clue why, and we just don't care.

Peace,

+++JMJ+++

But that wasn't really a war, Billy. Get your facts straight before you come up in here, all tryin' to school DCist.

jdregent,

I think you have missed the tone of Mr. Monkey's remarks. His remark, to me, was saying that our government has a very hypocritical stance on armed conflict. We use word games and speciousness to cover our tracks, when it's obvious to anyone with a Tv or paper what conflicts we are involved in, such as numerous wars in Central America.

It might take you a while to work out which comments are intended to humorous or to be read with a particular tone. I would suggest withholding your judgment until your sense of that is working better.

And go easy on Martin "Alpine Express" Austermuhle. He ain't a hata, but the man will dunk you into the next life. Am I right, Mah'in?

"anti-immigrant attitudes like Monkey's and Deep's are counterproductive" Whoooa Nellie! Anti-immigrant. WTF!
I'm just saying that my neighborhood is full of immigrants and have changed it to their very own liking. I never said that I hated them or was against them. There's just so many. And that's the truth. I didn't start any war.

Don't you just love the soundtrack and definitions! I always want to throw it up for Monte P & dieciseis

He never seems to be able to put his car in an actual parking spot. Even if there are ones right there.

To be fair, he doesn't really have much experience driving. He spends all his time taking the bus and riding Metro.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

So this reminds me of something I meant to mention the other day when you all were (rightfully) harping on the mayor about his trips. The Grahamstander has been to Central America and Africa more than once and I know he didn't pay for those trips. Why doesn't someone get on his case about that...AND the constant, constant, constant "illegal" parking.

Not good Jim. Not good at all. Fenty not good. Not good at all. Jim and El Salvador. China and Fenty. Boys! Boys! This is DC. USA! USA! Hulk Smash!

I'm still up for trading Graham to you straighties. We'll take anyone. Even Kevin Federline.

I gave the flag to Jim Graham, which I got it from a Salvadoran friend who in turn had escaped El Salvador to the US, when Ronald Reagan financed the assassinations of thousands of innocent people, including my friend's parents. The flag is a sign of friendship, not a way to promote Graham himself.

I think whoever wrote this post has a very limited knowledge of the Salvadoran community in DC area (actually over 250,000 and counting) which is very divided between right-wing Arena supporters and leftist FMLN followers. I know Graham is friends with both sides.

Now, check this out: the FMLN is a legitimate political party since 1992 after the peace accords and it has won democratically the majority of Mayoral and Legislative elections this year, before they went on to win the Presidential elections.

The tone of this post and the comments I read are very disturbing. Why are you trying to criticize people's personal believes? Or is this just about gossip.

It's freedom of speech and opinion, the last I checked.
Speaking as a Ward 1 resident. I feel displaced by the massive invasion of El Salvadorians in my neighborhood.
I was born there over 45 years ago and now it doesn't look so good. It's all going backwards.

Carlos,

I was by no means criticizing Jim Graham for his decision to fly an FMLN flag. And if you read the post carefully, I make clear that the FMLN is now a legitimate political party. I never insinuated otherwise. I was mostly interested in why he had the flag to begin with so I gave his office a call to find out.

As for the local Salvadoran community, I plead guilty on not knowing everything about it. I searched around for solid numbers, but they're pretty hard to come by. For example, the U.S. Census only recently counted about 500,000 Salvadorans in the whole country, while unofficially the tally is over 3 million. And when it comes to their political leanings, you're right -- I'm sure there's a split between FMLN and ARENA. In Mt. P, though, I only really saw evidence of the FMLN, and when I talked to CM Graham, he made clear that he was a fan of the party.

This post wasn't meant to criticize anyone more than it was meant to point out something interesting I saw on a walk in my neighborhood.

For example, the U.S. Census only recently counted about 500,000 Salvadorans in the whole country, while unofficially the tally is over 3 million.

Illegal immigrants aren't well known for their skills at filling out census forms. But they do make some excellent fish tacos and horchata.

carlos in dc: methinks thou doth protest too much. i didn't read anything in the article that was critical, and certainly, the comments are all criticizing graham for the crazy stuff he's known for, not for anything involving salvadorans. that's my read on the situation.

..and Carlos-dude, I got no ill will for El Salvadorians.
I'm just saying what I see and what is. Jimmy G is such a favorite topic to ride. We ride Jimmy more than he takes the Metro.

if you have no ill will, why do you feel "displaced" by them? pretty ironic considering you are talking about a population that is actually displaced.

I walk around my neighborhood and there is nothing for the average African-American male. Tonic and Dos Gringos is not me. Nor the Marxist Cafe. The Raven is too small. My old diner is a 24 hour laundromat. The Hades restaurant is
Tex-Mex. The cashier at Ercillia's never gets my order right. The cashiers in 7-11 is a regular hang-out for...
you guessed it. Don't even mention the Mount Pleasant Riots. Where the%&#*)(@ do I go! Do you see the displacement!?

Ooooh. This should get good.

But could I ask, in all seriousness, if you feel resentful about this change in your neighborhood? Do you feel that anything should be done to discourage the change? If so, what?

More gestapo-themed coffee shops and carryouts where you suffocate your own poultry. There are no wounds that a little Bűttcöffee! and El Pollo Suffocado can't heal.

I suggest I will vote Jimmy out and vote for someone else.
His vision is faded. I see what others see and it not good.

I agree about Graham. His time has come and gone. But what about the new Salvadoran presence in your neighborhood? Is that something we should try to temper? If so, how?

You got me there. E-verify. Have the local police train with immigration to get a handle on the situation. You
know, the laws of immigration.

I'm not talking about the legal versus illegal. I'm talking about the fact that it's Salvadoran instead of whatever it was before.

Oh! Why are all the signs in Spanish?

That's not really an answer. Even a lot of legal immigrants have a limited grasp of English.

I was asking if you think the fact that the neighborhood is apparently mostly Salvadoran is something we should be concerned about, something we should try to discourage, and if so why and how?

More generically, the question is about urban displacement.

I think that the neighborhood is overpopulated with illegals and that's what I'm calling them...illegal.
You know it and I know it. Plain to the eyes to see.
Nothing racist or xenophobic about it. It needs to stop.
We can't carry the problems of everybody on our shoulders.
I don't have any grass to cut and YES, I have cleaned toilets, but not anymore so don't give me that same old
"They're doing the jobs...blah ...blah...blah. I've worked in food services too. Why don't you open your door and let them in your area? I mean by the hundreds...
the stores and shops you used to visit get taken over.
Your favorite foods are gone. Your favorite hang-outs gone. What have you lost? Nothing, I bet.

Too be deeply and doubly serious. I'm a middle-aged Black male, living and breathing in a neighborhood where I was born in. The immigrants don't give me much respect.
I have a problem with their lack of respect. I grew up amongst White people and I had to put up with some of their disrespect. I'm not talking about all White people either. You know what I'm talking about. Now, some folks immigrate to my neighborhood and treat me like I am a problem. They don't understand my orders and when I am standing in line, they sometimes jump ahead of me as though I weren't there. What have your dealings with these immigrants been? Are you white? Chinese? Do you know how it feels to be treated like you're a stranger on your own turf?(and don't give me that sh*t about we're all immigrants). I'm 48 years old and am living this sh*t. It is for real. No delusional xenophobic hysteria here. For reals. What are your dealings with this? Come on, I want to play.

So, I had this big post that I sent you in response this morning. It was a masterpiece, filled with nuance and real insight.

But fucking DCist's system ate it.

So I'll abbreviate.....

I'm white. Super white. Wonder Bread white.

I've lived in neighborhoods that are majority black or majority latino, but I've never lived somewhere while the neighborhood changed dramatically.

That's why I was asking you specifically about the feelings of displacement. I've never been displaced.

As for my experience in DC with Salvadorans.... I'd say it has been somewhat limited.

I recognize there are problems with illegal immigrant populations. But it sounds like your problem is as much with the shift to a latino culture as it is with actual illegal immigrants.

That's what I was curious about.

I don't quite get your concerns about not being shown respect. I'm disrespected in DC all the time. Sometimes it's because I'm white (often that's the case, fairly seriously, when dealing with the DC government, or when, somewhat humorously but annoying, the girl at Popeyes refuses to wait on me and the other white guys in line, instead leaning around us to take the order of black people behind us).

Sometimes I think it's just because DC has a culture where people are disrespectful, especially in service industries, and it doesn't matter who you are.

Like I said, or try to tell you. They are illegal. That can be solved. Us being black or white, no problem.
Overcrowding, a problem.

Carlos, I don't think that anyone was criticizing the Grahamstander's personal beliefs, what most of us are commenting on is his crappy-style of governing and that, my friend if far from personal.

@ Martin, thanks for clarifying that, but then again you make it seem that Graham shouldn't have that flag in his car or he shouldn't befriend with the FMLN political party. What is your point?

@ Deep, sad.

@ Monkeyrotica, sadder.

@ Adams Morgan, now you are being honest. So this post is not about the flag and the car but to attack Graham politically, in which case I have no saying other than I've witnessed his work and the way people in Ward 1 love him -who reelected him for 3 terms. So hey, my part here is done.

Carlos,

I don't much care whether he has the flag in his car or not, I just wrote about it because it isn't something you see every day. When I saw it the first thing I thought was, "Well, it makes sense given the ward he represents."

Ok Martin, point taken. I guess I felt I had to respond to the question on WHY Council member JG does what he wants to do with his own personal property, just because it involved a gift I gave him. Have a good one, Spring is here.

Whole lot of "passive/agressive, look-at-me" going on here. Allow me to 'splain a little bit about DCist for Carlos and jdregent. This is a fun site with an often irreverent take on local goings-on. Smarter people will know to call this "satire" and move on with their lives. If you really want to critique and comment on the geopolitical leanings of other posters, may I suggest this web site: I_actually_DO_give_a_fuck_about_Central_America.com?

Political correctness be thrown into the fiery pit! Out damned spot!

Carlos, I wouldn't be too sure that the people in Ward One still love him as much as they used to. And yes they've elected him three times, but also remember that when term-limits were on the ballot in D.C. and the residents of this city voted in favor of them, but that was overturned, who was right there front and center saying that whatever happened, he would honor the will of the people?!?! Well now he's preparing for his FOURTH run for Council, how is that honoring the will of the people?

Martin Austermuhle: Rabble Rouser and Inciter of Cyber-Gang Warfare.

You forgot "Notorious Waterfront Agitator and Southern Dandy."

And all-feared bringer of the Alpine Express super-dunk.

It's like an avalanche of white basketballs.

The 3 terms should not be misinterpreted as an expression of love for Jim Graham. It's more a case of: who the f cares? Have you looked at either 1) the clowns that have "run" against him, or 2) the turnout in those "elections".

Thanks for paying such good attention to my beloved car and my sincere allegiances! Nicely done. Bests Jim

Jimmy? Is that you? Man, you better lay low. Go chill out somewheres. This room got a lil HOT...if you know what I mean. Don't mention that you are an American or they'll label you anti-immigrant. Aight!

Jim, why do you park illegally in front of fire hydrants and in loading zones??? Your constituents want to know.

Jim? is it you for real? Beware of flag thieves now...

Did we finally get us some closure? I know I feel better, kind of post-puke better, but at least it will last a few minutes.

It would be funnier if he had a flag that said "MILF" to show his support for the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in the Philippines.

user-pic

Monkey and Deep..see what I have to deal with on the gun issue? If you suggest that just maybe it doesn't make sense to require someone to learn how to shoot a handgun just to own a shotgun, you are viewed around here as a right-wing militia man.

On the immigration front, unless you think the Gubment should be giving out free handjobs to illegal immigrants, then you are obviously an uneducated xenophobe.

user-pic

What hand-jobs! Dude, are you for real. I don't do politics. I live it. Xenophobe...No. Misanthropic..yeah.
Do you still love me? I don't know if I love you?

On a more serious note: WTF! DCist is at times a comedy show trapped in a room of text. It's very hard to see emotions. When it gets serious...I'm talking about all you serious mother-f's that want to get all frigging serious...
when it gets serious..you guys are the hecklers and it our job to schlep you down. Ya dig. I don't care what goes on in another country. I do care what goes on in my neighborhood. Is there something wrong with that?

user-pic

Reread my post. I am on your side

user-pic

Oh I'm not calling you serious. I know you. I've got my magic mirror. I was talking about the other serious sams
that thought we were on Face the Nation. I still WUV U!

monkey's posts are alienated ideological ramblings devoid of facts. to wit:

FMLN is not and never was a left-wing death squad. the death squads were the joint creation of the right-wing founders of ARENA (the party in power since the peace accords) and the US.

The government is not "an inept socialist bureaucracy." that's because it is a right-wing neoliberal corrupt bureacracy that has been very good friends with the US for about 20 years. the "basket case" is wholly capitalist. funes will be the first progressive president in the history of El Salvador.

Contrary to monkey's rants, there have been wars undeclared by Congress since at least the "police action" in Vietnam, not counting those like the "secret" contra war against Nicaragua. Which, by the way, took place against a law passed by Congress. If you think that Congress declared war against Afghanistan and Iraq, think again.

monkey, go look for work at FOX news. Actual, you know, knowledge, is not a requirement there.

"monkey's posts are alienated ideological ramblings devoid of facts."

Welcome to DCist. Don't come here often, do you? That's okay. Things were getting dull here anyway. Flame on, amigo!

Au contraire...monkey's posts are 100% accurate. Especially the ones about CHUDs and Morlocks and coffeehouses which administer scalding hot beverages to their patrons rectally whilst banging on one's gonads with ballpeen hammers...all that stuff happens. No, seriously. It does.

Enough already. Let's just watch some freaking basketball.

I prefer to think of him as a breathing wikipedia, but with more scat jokes. And where I come from, this is how we observe the Sacred Days of March. Tournament Eve is spent irrationally screaming about about geopolitics, followed at sundown by the observance at the brass pole of reconciliation where all ill-will is forgotten.

"monkey, go look for work at FOX news"

PLEASE!!!PLEASE!!!PLEASE!!!PLEASE!!!

LatAm

You gave monkey and readers of this blog a good lesson on the effects of over two centuries-old US intervention in Latin American politics, especially in recent years, something that I hope the Obama administration will change.

Most importantly, we have to remember that most US interventions include economy models that have destroyed the lives of millions of LatAm farmers and workers, who after walking for day in the dessert, now they build your house, mow your lawn and clean your offices in DC, LA or NYC.

And then, those people had to face here racial hatred and xenophobia from people who prefer to ignore the consequences of the US government actions in the world.

Damn I'm so angry today.

Dude, don't be so hard on yourself and others. I appreciate any schooling that I can get. If it had been Cheese Weasels in my neighborhood, I would have called
the Big Cheese Eaters. They have a hunger for these kind of things.

oh jeez, if only you knew how foolish you look raggin' on monkey.

Well that's why we're here, compadre. It's cheaper than a movie and there's free Buttcoffee.

alienated ideological ramblings devoid of facts
Hell, that's his middle name.

Please, spare us all the righteous indignation. Some of us old timers have been to more Rock Against Reagan, Rock Against Bush, and anti-Contra protests than you've had hot dinners. And you know what? It didn't get me laid ONCE. So if you're trying to ask me out on a date, I suggest you work on your technique. Try a snappy opening line, like, "Hey baby, my moustache is leaving in 5 minutes. Be on it."

user-pic

Sorry, I should not have used that biased term "illegal aliens". I should have referred to them as "undocumented workers."

user-pic

I am waiting for Cheh to introduce the "Welcome Illegal Immigrants as Long as you Don't Move into Ward 3 Act."

user-pic

You know what bugs me even more is that Martin does not want to talk to talk about the Alpine Menace purveying the streets of DC. They are even letting some of these f'ing chocolate eating, Nazi collaborators blog.

Hey gang. Professor Frankenheimer and I have just gotten back from the past. We built a time machine out of our Radio Shack 1000 electronic kit and a large empty Best Buy refrigerator box. We managed to grab that damned flag of off Jimmy's car so none of this never happened.

user-pic

Okay, that was the first time I've laughed out loud at a blog post in a long time.

user-pic

After five thirty... can this grahamtastic post make it to 100? Only 12 more nuggets of "wisdom".

Hilarious thread! When is the roundtable discussion with Monkey, Jim Graham, and Hugo Chavez?

Yeah, well I heard that Jack Evans keeps a severed arm from the Lord's Resistance Army on his dashboard.

Yeah, but who doesn't? I do, and I don't even have a car.

user-pic

Graham and Matthew Lesko should have a cute car-off!

user-pic

Jim Graham is Matthew Lesko!

This wonderful chicken has been roasting over a hot political spit-fire for the past 2 hours simmering deep in monkey juices and other native flavors. My red pitchfork is
set aside to pierce the cackling flesh to see if the inards are done to satisfaction. Is it soup yet?

user-pic

Not until Carlos's head actually explodes

What do we get for a hundred comments? Free slider from Junkpunchers?

All Bűttcöffee! and El Pollo Suffocado locations are honoring Junkpunchers' Free Slider coupons. It was part of their $130 billion bailout package. Kids also get a free "Happy Meal" that includes a wind-up toy goatse. It's part of a cross promotion with Paramount/Dreamworks' upcoming film, Transformers III: Rise of the Wind-up Goatses.

user-pic

Boy, that escalated quickly... I mean, that really got out of hand fast.

It jumped up a notch.

It did, didn't it?

I stabbed a man in the heart.

I saw that. Brick killed a guy. Did you throw a trident?

Yeah, there were horses, and a man on fire, and I killed a guy with a trident.

Brick, I've been meaning to talk to you about that. You should find yourself a safehouse or a relative close by. Lay low for a while, because you're probably wanted for murder.

Damn, 102 comments and no Rush lyrics. We are falling behind folks.

They say there are strangers who threaten us
In our immigrants and infidels
They say there is strangeness too dangerous
In our theaters and bookstore shelves
That those who know what's best for us
Must rise and save us from ourselves

are we the priests of the temples of syrinx?

Kudos to Martin for hitting the Graham/parking/immigrant/communism sweet spot. The Rush lyrics were just icing on the $5 cupcake.

Looking forward to the double-parking-churchie/rock-throwing-teen/sidewalk-riding-bicyclist/Marion-Barry-brain-transplant thread.

really, monkey, you're asking for too much. that's the holy grail, and i just don't know if you can choose that wisely.

this thread has been thoroughly satisfying. thank you

this thread has been thoroughly satisfying for a friday afternoon catchup.
