WUSA9 News is reporting that Marion Barry has been quietly re-admitted to Howard University Hospital, just a handful of days after being released following his kidney transplant surgery. They quote a Barry spokesperson saying the Ward 8 Council member and former mayor is expected to remain in the hospital at least through the end of the week. Doctors apparently became concerned about Barry's condition after examining him on Monday, and promptly admitted him to the hospital, thus explaining why he did not attend yesterday's Council legislative session. The news means that Barry will likely spend his birthday in the hospital. He turns 73 on Friday.

Seriously, I hope he's doing better. Without Barry, there'd be one less thing to make fun of on dcist. Sure, the cops are crooked and the $5 cupcakes are dry and the hiptards and trustafarians are slowly going broke laying their shabby overpriced small-plate lifestyle on a bed of complacency while they slowly f**k it to death. But Barry will always be Barry. And in this crazy mixed up world, that's sorta comforting. Maybe!

I don't know if this is a rejection issue. They usually dope you up with lots of drugs to lower your immune system to reduce the possibility of rejection. He might have caught a cold or something that he might otherwise have easily gotten over. Anyway, dude's friggin 73. He's been rode hard, put away wet, and has more crack in him than "The Bride Stripped Bare By Her Bachelors, Even." He's the Keith Richards of ward politics. You just can't kill him.
