As we noted a couple of weeks ago, mechanical street sweepers will once again exert their significant muscle over local car owners starting today. Of course, technically, the District won't start handing out tickets for violations until the March 30 -- but considering the current budget crisis, we wouldn't want to be pushing the limits of anything involving the District and fines its agencies are collecting. Anyway, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for those "No Parking/Street Cleaning” signs from now on, lest your car be subject to the brutality of the new "Sweepercam" system. (Can we start the countdown to when "Sweepercam" will be self-aware yet?)

i, for one, welcome out new sweepercam overlords!
Indeed...who knew that John Connor and Mr. T-101 were on the wrong track all along? Was a complete waste of time to pursue Skynet, clearly. Judgment Day will obviously not be a rain of hellfire from the skies as Skynet launches all of our nuclear weapons at once, but instead, will be an avalanche of red tape as Sweepercams nationwide issue millions of citations due to 'sweeping' legislation passed outlawing street parking at any time anywhere. The municipal judicial system will be overloaded immediately, leading to appointment of coldly efficient Sweepercams as judges, who find every citizen guilty, thus solving all budgetary problems for all municipalities. Fines are increased incrementally until Sweepercam judges begin to sentence parking offenders to death...and since all citizens are guilty, all shall perish. Who will save us from this peril?
Man, I saw some (quite-legally parked) cars getting blasted with water this morning--there was a water truck followed by the traditional-looking sweeper truck. I had to time my walk so that I, too, didn't get soaked. The water pressure was pretty intense, and the aim was off--cars were getting hit about 1 foot off the ground. What the hell?
