>> The Corcoran Gallery of Art hosts a free lunch time jazz series today. The 12:30 p.m. concert features a trio led by drummer Wayne Tympanick.

>> Local vocalist Loide, specializing in bossa nova and straight-ahead jazz, performs 8 and 10 p.m. sets tonight at Blues Alley. Tickets are $18 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.

>> The Side FX Band, featuring vocalist Kim Cameron, blends a '70s pop sound with blues and jazz influences. They will be celebrating the release of their latest album, Contradictions, on Thursday night at Blues Alley. Tickets to the 8 and 10 p.m. sets are $18 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.

>> Pianist Dred Scott and his trio have held a Tuesday night residence at Manhattan's Rockwood Music Hall for over three years. They'll make a rare D.C. appearance this Thursday at Twins Jazz. Call 202-234-0072 for set time and cover information.

>> Bassist Butch Warren played on many of the classic Blue Note albums of the 1960s, alongside jazz legends Dexter Gordon, Hank Mobley, Jackie McLean, and others. The D.C. native plays every Wednesday at Columbia Station on 18th Street, but this Friday he will be leading a special group at the Westminster Presbyterian Church's Jazz Night in Southwest. 6 to 9 p.m. $5

>> Saffire: The Uppity Blues Women bring their unique interpretation of the blues and R&B for their last performance in this area. They will be playing a 7:30 p.m. set this Friday at the Birchmere. $35 + Ticketmaster fees.

>> Accomplished jazz trumpeter Amir ElSaffar explores his roots on Friday at the Kennedy Center, as he accompanies author/actress Heather Raffo. Part of the on-going Arabesque festival, the performance will combine melodic solos with dramatic spoken word. Tickets to the 7:30 p.m. show are $18.

>> For the past 25 years, drummer Ralph Peterson, Jr. has played with the finest in jazz, including Terrence Blanchard, Branford Marsalis, and the Count Basie Orchestra. He will lead a group this Friday and Saturday at Bohemian Caverns. Tickets to the 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. sets are $20. Fridays this month, the Caverns will also launch Jazz Afterhours, featuring DCist faves, The Young Lions. 12:30 a.m. $5.
