Weekly Music Agenda

London-based band White Lies are at the Black Cat tonight.
TUESDAY
>> The UK's White Lies is already being hyped as one of the best bands of 2009. Shouldn't there be a six-month waiting period before we get into that debate? You could check back in July, or go ahead and see them tonight at the Black Cat, where they'll share the stage with Friendly Fires and The Soft Pack. $15, 8 p.m.

WEDNESDAY
>> Is there a greater honor bestowed upon local bands than to be added to the burger menu at DC9? Arguably not. New Rock Church of Fire joins the ranks of Rosetta Stoned, Five Four, The Lucky Bastards and other local luminaries with their own burger -- topped with beer-battered onion rings, John Powers Whiskey BBQ Sauce, smoked gouda cheese and mushrooms. The band will be inaugurating this delicious occasion with a burger unveiling show at the venue. Damiera, Man Without Wax, and Meow vs Meow fill out the bill. Come hungry. $8, 8:30 p.m.

THURSDAY
>> When Glasvegas played the Rock & Roll Hotel this fall, DCist's Valerie Paschal lamented forgetting earplugs. But she also had a hell of a time at the show. Now it's your turn. See them at the Black Cat this time, with Ida Maria, $15. 8 p.m.

FRIDAY
>> Portland, Oregon based indie-folk-pop outfit Blind Pilot just landed the opening slot on The Decemberists upcoming tour, but you can see them on a smaller stage this Friday at IOTA, with Ezra Furman and the Harpoons. $12, 9 p.m.

SATURDAY
>> After recently getting 'Forked (an 8.0!), local delights Deleted Scenes are treating the Black Cat to a night of their thoughtful, spare, rhythmic indie rock. Australians The Drones and Pretty & Nice share the bill. Black Cat. $12, 9 p.m.

>> Unbuckled vets and friends of DCist Middle Distance Runner will be playing IOTA, presumably to promote their new 7", The Unbeliever, which came out March 17. Eulogies and The Payola Reserve open. $12, 9 p.m.

>> Saturday night's alright for party punk and casual sex at the Rock & Roll Hotel. By casual sex we mean, of course, New York's Asobi Seksu (that's what their name means in Japanese). By party punk, we mean Detroit's Tyvek, who will be playing some completely unpolished cacophony that bears absolutely no resemblance to the twinkly, layered shoegaze you'll get from Asobi Seksu. $12, 8:30 p.m.

>> Sao Paolo's Garotas Suecas blend their Brazilian roots with some straight American style garage rock and soul. They're playing this weekend at Comet Pizza & Ping Pong, and it's free! 10 p.m.

SUNDAY
>> Edie Sedgwick told us in a Three Stars interview last year, "I try and break down the air of formality that’s separating me from the audience and, maybe, causing that. It’s especially vital in D.C., which is full of serious thinkers thinking seriously about music. And all of them at all ages shows! I only want to play 25 and up shows to drunk people. It’d be easier. I need people to think less, and party more. P period A period R period T period Y period. So I try and inject element of fun into what can be ritualistic and even boring. I’ve seen at least a million bands, maybe 2 million. Maybe I can turn this event, which can be as boring as going to church, into something memorable: “Oh, this weird guy did this weird show, and I hated it.” Hate it, as long as you remember it!" And this weekend, he's playing the Cat's backstage with one of D.C.'s best band's, Medications. There's really no reason to miss this show. Black Cat Backstage. $8, 9 p.m.

>> If you're looking for the exact opposite of that, head to DC9 for FUTURECOP!'s oddly appealing twinkly electronic cartoon music. With DJ Doc Rok. $10, 9 p.m.

>> They're from Vancouver. They're called Brasstronaut. They are the product of a jam session between keyboards and a trumpet. And they're playing at Galaxy Hut this Sunday. 9 p.m.
