Yes, That is Angelina Jolie Filming Downtown

2009_0305_jolie3.jpg 2009_0305_jolie4.jpg You win! After receiving 47 different emails over the last two days begging us to "report" on the fact that there is a movie crew in town, we are now complying. The movie in question is called Salt, which stars Angelina Jolie wearing not one, but two different wigs, and also Liev Schreiber. The film is described as a spy thriller about a rogue CIA operative who must clear her name after she is accused of being a Russian sleeper agent.

Salt has been filming in town for the last two days, and as far as we understand it, will be here for at least four more. On Wednesday, they were shooting at the Mandarin Oriental hotel, and this morning, they were at 7th and Pennsylvania Ave., which reportedly really mucked up traffic.

DCist's Alicia Mazzara reports from the scene that a lack of signage created a lot of confusion earlier in the day. "People were accidentally walking through the set while trying to go to Starbucks," Alicia said. "Pedestrians can walk through on 7th Street between the shots, but the extras look exactly like normal office workers, so it's hard to tell what's going on at first."

Alicia watched them shoot one scene. In it, Angelina was being chased, and she ran through traffic on 7th Street and up the little hill by the Archives Metro station. Alicia described Angelina as "hardly recognizable" because she's wearing a brown knit hat, tan pea coat, jeans, and a backpack.

Reliable Source notes that Jolie's husband, Brad Pitt, is also in town, to meet with Energy Secretary Steven Chu and Nancy Pelosi to discuss reconstruction efforts in New Orleans.

wow, she looks so tiny in that picture!

I can tell she is hoping Brad takes his time on the hill so she and I can get together for a few stolen minutes.

I was caught up in their lil traffic jam this morning.
Nice timing. The peak of morning rush hour smack dab in the middle of downtown DC. Whose big idea was it to film downtown at 9a.m. in the morning. I want names!

did you think that maybe they wanted to film a scene that takes place during rush hour?

That's what extra's R 4.

This is the real world, dude. People have to get to work.
Real bosses and real time sheets. I'm not on the movie payroll. So don't go raining on my parade.

hey, dude, tough shit. the movie industry pays the city big bucks for filming permits. more than the taxes you or i pay, so they get preference. thems the breaks.

Gosh! So they're going to call my boss and tell her Sorry he's late, we'll pay for the time lost? I don't think so, bub! Action!

they're not going to call anyone. you're incidental. get used to it.

Who they gonna call...Ghostbusters?!

are you reimbursing your boss for the time you're spending commenting on dcist? didn't think so.

I can type and do my work in another window. It real easy.
Not Etch-a-Sketch like yours.

Girls, please. You're both pretty.

Turning into a foxsports.com comment post around here :)

Thanks I haven't been called pretty in a long time. Not since the lip implants......but he started it.

So help me, I will turn this car around RIGHT NOW!!

I'm sorry. Don't put us in the trunk again? I'll be good.
I'll be real good. So good...you'll see. Are we going to see the Eggman today?

I sincerely hope her set wranglers are keeping her a safe distance from any schools, lest she shanghai more babies.

Mr. Pitt was just on one of the news channels. Pelosi was issuing a statement and dragged him along.

He looked REALLY uncomfortable with her. Hot, but uncomfortable just the same. Pelosi was doing per politick schtick, and he looked like he had just sold his soul to the devil.

Pelosi, however, looked as giddy as a schoolgirl.

Phew - I thought this was going to end up being an Octo-mom story.

"...she ran through traffic on 7th Street and up the little hill by the Archives Metro station."

Actually, that was me running ... easy mistake.

This morning they were sending people leaving Archives Metro heading east up towards F St (blocking the cross at Indiana Ave). Not sure if that's still the case (unlikely), but plan on potentially having to take an alternate route from the Courthouse if they're still shooting.

Anyone know where they'll be shooting next?

Tomorrow they will be in Georgetown - according to IMDB message board.

She is at L'Enfant Plaza right now. Seen with me own eyes.

Where where? I'm there now.

I can see the crew at L'Enfant from my office . . . hope they are still there when I walk home.

it's interesting that you called Brad her "husband" - i don't think they are actually married. or... am i missing something?

Actually it's not that interesting that DCist made a fairly simple mistake, especially when being more accurate requires wordiness and clunkier phrasing.

This may shock you to realize, but it's also not terribly interesting to know so much about celebrities' personal relationships that you feel compelled to issue corrections about idle references to them.

Yep, but then again any time a comment starts with a leading, raised-eyebrow phrase like "it is interesting that you--," we've already jumped to the snark.

I was seriously wondering if I missed something and they did get married. As demonfafa noted, they once said they wouldn't do so until gays had the same rights.

I wasn't trying to "make a correction."

They both stated several years back that they will not likely get married until gays have the right to marry.

whoa, is marigold clairevoyant?

7th and Pennsylvania? Better watch out for those Metro buses.

I thought there was a bus accident this morning, so I pulled a Jack Bauer u-turn on 7th, went to 12th which was backed up b/c of overflow and two delivery trucks and busses blocking lanes, went down Penn to make a left on 7 to bypass "the bus accident" saw paparrazi and lots of film cameras. I could see my office but couldn't move. Busted another Bauer u-turn, finally get to my office and traffic is jacked and can't turn into the garage, go to the end of the street, normal u-turn this time, followed by Jack Bauer move #3 driving on the sidewalk a half block to get into the garage. Fuck Hollywood! I made my own action movie this morning.

Just went outside by L'enfant, and couldn't see jack. Street was blocked off far away from the action. Boo.

If you were going to draw parallels between current media obsessions and characters from the DC (comic book) universe, and we should - Angelina Jolie would be Wonder Woman with Octomom as the Bizarro Wonder Women (Bizarra, according to Wikipedia). Bernie Madoff would be Mister Mxyzptlk, Travis the face eating chimp Gorilla Grodd. Not sure about Rihanna and Chris Brown - some sort of Wonder Twins and Green Lantern/Sinestro hybrid I'm thinking.

Watch out Boondoggle. Imgoph is on the prowl. You must make sense. I hear something. Oh no! Its Imgoph! We in trouble now.

Does anyone know of a good way of finding out what movies are coming to DC to film ahead of time.

I had a fun time being an extra on "State of Play" and would like to try to do it again on another movie.

There should be a number on the DC government website.
They also make announcements on Craigs list.

Chiwetel Ejiofor is supposed to be in this movie too. I wonder if he will be in DC?! I'd be much more excited to run into him in my neighborhood than Angelina.

This article states that Brad Pitt is Angelina's husband, which is not true. They have both been very vocal about NOT getting married until EVERYONE can get married.

I know a lot of guys who are using that excuse as well. It's called not paying for the cow when you get the milk for free. Mmmm...milk.

That's a great line. Those two are such martyrs. Maybe they could do the same for us. "We won't come to DC ever, ever again until it's a State!"

Wow, a real celebrity in town, unlike ugly old/young political types.

Can we file this under "Who Cares?"
