Some reports coming in that the Capitol was briefly evacuated after an airspace violation. An airplane apparently strayed into restricted air space over the District and had to be diverted. The White House was reportedly also evacuated, but MSNBC has since reported that Capitol Police have given the all-clear. We've heard that a helicopter can still be seen circling around Dupont Circle. Anybody see anything else? We'll update when we hear more.

How odd! I'm here on The Hill and we received NO WARNINGS.
I guess it's true. WE ARE EXPENDABLE!
Airspace Violation Briefly Evacuates Capitol
There's a poop joke there somewhere but, fuggit, it's Friday. I'm off.
Something to do with Senator Brown?
Actually, when I see "Capitol," "evacuate," and "brief" I think Senator David Vitter.
The headline reminds me of a scene from season 5 of The Wire.
Was it the scary Customs Blackhawk with the machine guns, or the more amiable USCG Dolphin that comes out of DCA with the huge yellow LED "FOLLOW ME" sign in the door? (and, presumably, also machineguns)
From the DCPilots e-mail list:
Flew right over the building I'm in near route 50 and 301, east of Freeway Airport, flying East towards Annapolis, two jets and we only saw one Helo though there was supposed to be two up there. The jets were circling him, VERY loud, very low.

The poor sap probably just clipped the 15 mile no-fly ring around DC.
According to my sources, no one evacuated...they were just given notice that they might have to evacuate.
White House wasn't evacuated. Helicopter has been hovering over World Bank all day.
Capitol Hill Police shut off entry to the Hill on streets, I know that. We were walking to lunch, and wondered what was going on, but received no notice that we were to evacuate.
More security theater. The last time a Cessna ran into the White House, the repairs required a couple of hours with a tree surgeon and two gallons of pain.
