Buy Caps Tickets, Get Free Mystics Seasons
The NHL regular season came to a close this past weekend. The Washington Capitals finished with a 50 win, 108 point season—their best finish ever—culminating in their second Southeast Division title in a row. Their mark was good enough to earn the second seed in the Eastern Conference behind Boston. Along with the Bruins, only San Jose and Detroit of the Western Conference enter the playoffs with better records. As the two seed in the East, the Caps draw the # 7 New York Rangers for a first round Stanley Cup Playoff series that begins tomorrow evening at the Verizon Center. Game 2 is an afternoon affair this Saturday.
The series will then shift north to New York for games next Monday and Wednesday. Games 5 and 7 if necessary would be played at the Verizon Center on Friday, April 24, and Tuesday, April 28, respectively. Game 6 would be April 26 at Madison Square Garden. Earlier today, star defenseman Mike Green was on the DC 101 morning show to shave a mohawk for the spring run.
With the Caps’ success and popularity this season, playoff tickets were never made available for purchase to the general public. Season ticket holders hold rights to their seats and were able to snap up a few extras for Games 1 and 2 for the first series. The right to purchase playoff tickets was also granted to those eager to shell out for full season tickets for the 2009-2010 season. Those looking for tickets, however, would be wise to check with Craig, where it seems as if everyone holding a ticket for tomorrow night’s game is trying to sell it. There’s been over 600 posts in the last week, with tickets priced as low as $60 and $75.
The most interesting offer, however, comes from the Capitals themselves. In an e-mail that went out to season and group ticket account holders this afternoon, the club is offering a $175 ticket package for a seat in the Dewars 12 Club, a bar and restaurant on the arena’s club level. The price includes a buffet (which doesn’t look half bad—we’ve seen it before but haven’t paid to eat it), 90 minutes of free beer and wine before the game, and a hat. But in the package that keeps on giving, they’ll even throw in a season ticket to the Washington Mystics. That’s 18 WNBA home games, and the tickets are in the “Club Corner” according to the Capitals ticket office. While Mystics season tickets start at $119, the Club Corners in the 200 level of the arena go for $280 a season on their own. The Caps list their $175 package as a $300 value. But with the value of the Mystics tickets fully factored in—assuming WNBA tickets hold any actual value to the holder—it’s quite the ticket deal. Who’s got next?
