Lauren Whittington at Roll Call reports that congressional leaders announced that a statue of former President Ronald Reagan will be unveiled in the Capitol Rotunda on June 3. In other federal iconography news, FOXNews reveals that there is nary a Republican First Wife in Madame Tussauds.
Of course there's no Republican First Ladies at Mme. Tussaud's. Because America hates Republicans. And Jesus. And puppies (except Bo Obama, of course). And freedom.
Seriously...I can't think of a GOP First Lady who had enough style or cachet to warrant immortalization in wax. Anyone? I'm happy to be enlightened on this one...
Ellen Arthur was kinda hot. I'd do her.
Don't you realize that FOX News will exploit any opportunity -- no matter how small -- to bitch about any injustices toward the GOP? In this case it's a goddamn wax figure in a shitty, overpriced museum that really has no historical significance whatsoever. The scary part is that the conservative FOX News audience will get all up in arms after reading such a ridiculous "article."
Of course they will...and it will be hilarious to watch. I laughed out loud when I read that Bill O'Reilly refuses to see any of Sean Penn's movies!
They've gone back to backbenching, woe is us, victims again. Quite nicely.
What! No 3 Stooges statues!?
This is how I choose to remember Reagan.
What the heck are they putting a statue of a president, who never served in Congress in Capitol Rotunda for?
"The statues and busts in the Rotunda are primarily of presidents, including a copy of a statue of George Washington by Antoine Houdon. The marble statue of Abraham Lincoln is by Vinnie Ream, for whom Lincoln sat. She was the first woman artist to receive a government commission. Other former presidents commemorated with statues in the Rotunda include James Garfield, Ulysses Grant, Andrew Jackson, and Thomas Jefferson. The sculpture in the Rotunda also includes representations of Alexander Hamilton and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr."
That Reagan statue could use some extra decorating, to really capture his philosophy. Bring in the Pigeons!!
