Granville Moore's Chef to Compete in Next Food Network Star

For the poor guy who was told that Granville Moore's chef Teddy Folkman was going to open a Granville Moore's in New York... he's not. And go figure, he also wasn't on an Alaskan cruise or fishing in the Caribbean. Those were just some of the excuses made up by staff for Folkman's recent six week hiatus while he filmed the next season of the Food Network's The Next Food Network Star, DCist has learned.

TV viewers will soon get to see Folkman face a number of challenges as he works for a grand prize of his own Food Network television show. For those not familiar with his previous television dossier, he faced off with Bobby Flay in a moules frites throwdown. The first episode of the new season of The Next Food Network Star will debut June 7 at 9 p.m.

With all these cooking competition shows I think we can nicely transition from March Madness to April Madness (or Apgrill) by having all 64 cooking competition show winners compete against each other; with the winner being formally (and legally) named “Chef Whogivesafuck”.

The line between chefs and the skanks on "Flavor of Love" are blurring ever so closely. They're almost becoming parodies of themselves. What good can come to your career when you get "Chopped" for having a souffle deflate on you on national TV?

This is not good - not good at all! I already can't get a seat here to drink delicious beer and eat amazing mussels and frites!

Anybody want to help me start a smear campaign to dissuade people from going to Granville Moore's so maybe we can actually get to enjoy it ourselves? I'm thinking something along the lines of "pubes found in the truffle aioli" -- but if people think they are pubes from Teddy Folkham that might entice them more than repulse them.

And now I've sufficiently grossed myself out..

The trick is going for happy hour early at like 5 (cut out of work if you have to) and then claiming a booth upstairs and eventually order food after a couple beers (if you have any money left). You've got it made til 7, when it becomes unbearably crowded to even enjoy yourself...

Yeah the weekends are a mess - that did not work out so well last time I tried. But the upside was discovering The Pug's hot cider - damn good!

H Street is just soo far from where I work - I probably just need to take a "beer" day soon rather than grossing myself out with a pube smear campaign. The things we do for beer - well rather, the things *I* do for beer. And mussels. And frites. And truffle aioli.

Huh. Usually when it's unbearably crowded and I'm "enjoying myself," I get thrown out before I'm ready to leave. Pubes in the aioli, indeed.

Please start the smear campaign! As someone who lives right around the corner from Granville's it's a shame how many times i've been turned away or discouraged because it's always waaaay too crowded.

Don't for the free H street shuttle from the Gallery Place metro and the Minnesota av metro. It runs every 1/2 hour.

I was watching a news report about unemployment. They had cased out a Subway Sandwich Shop. A chef had applied for the job as creative sandwich maker. The times are hard.

While the Food Network venture might be a little overplayed Granville Moore's is still a great neighborhood find. Went there last Friday and attempted to beat the rush...after failing miserably I found a spot at the bar which actually panned out well. The attentive bartenders, Tai and Nikki, were full of suggestions which came in handy as I have long counted on the default Delirium Tremens like a scared kid grasping at the side of the ice rink. The frites are delicious and the mussels were great. The brisket sandwich was h-u-g-e...though so good it was gone by the end of the night.

A few tips: 1) Get there early and realize early means potentially 5. 2) Don't be afraid to walk by the bar scouting open spots...it might save you an hour wait. 3) Eat at the bar if you can! The bartenders are great and may even let you sample their favorite bourbons or the staff beer picks. 4) Rumor has it the new Spring menu came out today. Haven't seen it online but will be going back to sample the suggested new addition - a yummy asparagus salad. Worth the wait and still a neighborhood crowd though we'll have to see after June 7...
